Some Basics For Aggressive Dog Training

By Bette Gay

Being an owner means being responsible for your pet. As such, it is up to you to build a relationship that will bring about appropriate behavior in your pet. In some cases, you may be having problems with his aggressiveness, which may mean that you need to give him aggressive dog training san diego.

If your pet is still young, then this is the right time to get him used to you, other people and other animals. Let him meet new people and pets and let him interact with them. Touch him constantly so that he will not be averse to being handled when matured.

As an adult, your pet may be misbehaving for a number of reasons. He may want to be more dominant than others and can be confrontational. If he was treated harshly in the past, then this can cause him to act out even with the owner. He may also indulge in this behavior when he is protecting something or someone.

For your safety, you should know the early warning signs before an attack. The pet may stand stiffly with a raised tail and the ears flat. He may bare his teeth while staring at the object of his anger and may bark very threateningly.

The first thing to eliminate is a medical cause. Some illnesses can make them prone to acting threateningly. Take the time to go to a licensed professional to check on the condition of your pet. If there is no illness, look into other approaches to correct his behavior.

Make it clear to your pet that you are the leader. Show this for example by being the one he goes to for his meals or his toys. Train him to wait patiently and if he refuses to do so, take the object away and repeat after a few minutes. Be the decision maker in activities and do not engage in acts that require aggressive behavior.

It is important to familiarize your pet with other animals or people. A slow introduction into the company of others will desensitize him and make him confident with interaction. If your pet starts to misbehave, control him with a leash and convey your disapproval. Reward him if he plays nice.

Condition your pet by giving him rewards for good behavior. If there are other pets around but he behaves nicely, give him a reward. If there are other people and he complies with your command to stop barking, then you can give him a treat. Treats will make him more cooperative and compliant with aggressive dog training san diego.
