The Beckoning Cat

By John Olander

Maneki Neko, typically referred to as the welcoming cat by Americans, is actually a well-liked symbolic figurine spotted almost everywhere in Japan. Intended to characterize Japan's Bobtail kitten, this specific statue is normally constructed with pottery and can be stumbled upon at the doorway to many businesses and retailers in the country. These particular feline novelties happen to be well-known as an important icon of good success as well as prosperity.

The name Maneki neko, which in a literal sense translates as beckoning cat in Japan, had been given to this distinct cat due to the numerous tales that endured throughout the late 1800's. Like the legends understand it this particular cat had beckoned several Japanese individuals out of danger. One renowned fable talks about a cat that assisted his or her very poor owner by way of saving a wealthy guy's life. The well-off gentleman was initially standing near a tree in the rain but later the cat neared him and guided him to leave. Moments afterward the tree ended up being hit by lightning from the sky and the rich gentleman discovered the kitty had saved his life. In an effort to repay his debt with the cat, the guy went to search for its master and found the poor owner. He subsequently provided the owner with cash and introduced well-off people to gather in the religious temple. After the feline died it is proclaimed that the owner had crafted a statue over the grave that displays the pet cat beckoning utilizing his or her paw.

The modern cat figurine rests upon its hind thighs and leg and it is commonly carrying a golden metal coin known as the 'koban' on a single hand. The opposite hand is always elevated upward above the eyes while having its foot aiming outward that can symbolize an inviting motion. To North Americans this pose can essentially be identified as that which we perform if we try to indicate somebody's stature when utilizing our hands. Normally our fingertips are fully extended outward, kept above our head, with the hand stretching out parallel with the ground.

This gesture throughout Asia signifies to follow me which happens to be totally different from the Western Europeans. In the American society we use an open palm and move it in an upward motion, on the other hand in Japan their palms are facedown where they move their fingertips and wrist turning inward. In Asia using an open palm to motion in this fashion is only intended for animals, but these days this really is turning out to be a lot less applied.

The lucky cat can be made using a number of substances which can determine the cost belonging to the particular statue. Some examples of materials are ceramic, plastic, sterling silver, platinum and also jade. Additionally, the Neko cat is not necessarily of the sculpture assortment, it can be discovered in a variety of other styles for instance pen carrying cases, personal piggybanks, key chains, stickers, lunch boxes and much more. These collectibles have become more conventional over time.

All about American Staffordshire Terrier

By Nemanja Djuric

In the early part of the twentieth century, the breed gained social stature and was accepted by the American Kennel Club as the American Staffordshire Terrier. They are not to be confused with the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The American Staffordshire terrier is a medium-sized, short-coated dog breed whose early ancestors came from England.

Until the first part of the 19th century, the Bulldog was bred in England for the purpose of baiting bulls. Bulldogs pictured as late as 1870 resemble contemporary American Staffordshire Terriers to a greater degree than present-day Bulldogs. The early ancestors of this breed come from England, where applications included farm use, guarding, dog fighting, and companionship.

The cross of Bulldog and Terrier was called by several names, including Bull-and-Terrier Dog, Half and Half, and Pit Dog or Pit Bull terrier. Later, it assumed the name of Staffordshire Bull Terrier in England. Some writers contend it was the White English Terrier, Fox Terrier, or the Black and Tan Terrier that was crossed with the Bulldog to develop the Staffordshire Terrier; all three breeds shared many traits, the greatest differences being in color, aggressiveness, and spirit.

American Staffordshire terriers gained in popularity in the 1920s with "Pete the Pup's" appearances in the Our Gang (The Little Rascals) comedies, contributing to the spread of the breed. Dogs began to find their way into USA as early as 1870, where they became known as the Pit Dog and Pit Bull Terrier, then the American Bull Terrier, and still later as the Yankee Terrier.

In 1936, they were accepted for registration in the AKC Stud Book as Staffordshire Terriers, belonging to the terrier and molosser groups. The name of the breed was revised January 1, 1972 to American Staffordshire Terrier; breeders in the United States had developed a variety which was heavier in weight than the Staffordshire Bull Terrier of England - the name change was to distinguish them as separate breeds. The breed's popularity began to decline in the United States following World War II.

The American Staffordshire Terrier routinely ranks well above many "popular" breeds such as the Beagle, Collie, Doberman Pinscher and the Cocker Spaniel. Intelligence, human attenuation, energy, and affection are characteristic of the breed. American Staffordshire Terrier pups should not be brought weaned before they are 8-10 weeks old. Their life expectancy is generally 12 to 16 years with good care. The American Temperament Test Society conducts tests every year on thousands of dogs to determine the soundness of their temperament.

Hypoallergenic Dog Food is the Best Bet For Your Dog's Health

By Maria Rockwell

What is hypo-allergenic dog food? Well, the answer to that query is the reason for this post. You might think it is solely to offer you a product of dog food, but it isn't. Our dog must have specialized food for psychological difficulties. I understand that sounds absurd: "He's a Dog! Yes, he is a DOG and we ADORE DOG!

Due to being an abuse shelter puppy, Frank has always been nervous and anxious. Then, he is a black lab breed, which makes him especially high strung and hyper. By itself, this is not that much of a problem. Unfortunately, Frank has started seriously biting when he gets excited, nervous or threatened. That is very scary for our family.

When first we elicited the help of a Canine Behaviorist, she focused right away on the dog food we were feeding Frank. Get him off Junk Food. What? I didn't know there was any such thing. She went on further to say this: Some dogs are hyper-sensitive to many products that show up in their processed food. The typical dog owner has no real understanding of what exactly they are feeding their dog when they are feeding the least expensive Big Dog Food Manufacturer's products. If they had any notion, they would be sickened. Now that I know a little about the subject, I am disgusted and I feel lousy that many of my dog's problems are caused by bad dog food that I give him. Live, learn, and change bad habits.

Our Behaviorist taught us that we needed to get food with absolutely no corn or chemical preservatives. She wanted us to get pure, all natural, balanced dog food for him immediately. That is easier said than done. The Behaviorist resisted getting into the "Best Dog Food in the World" debate. She said to read what is on the bag. Well, gee whiz, okay.

Apparently being part of the last century, I jumped into the car (hey, it's a Prius, at least) and set out to the local pet shop to get the Big Dog some corn-free, balanced and additie free dog food. Ha ha. No can do. I essentially couldn't get such a thing at PetCo, PetSmart, PetLane or the Feed Store and I definitely couldn't find anything at the red bull's eye store, Walmart or SaveMart. Whole Foods did have a few little tiny bags of organic dog food which cost an arm and a leg. Frank eats a lot. He weighs in at over 80 pounds.

Oh yea, furthermore, as it happens dog food comes in numerous feeding variations. And one learns this how? Dried Kibble, Holistic, BARF (this is a charming acronym for Biologically Appropriate RAW ), Mix-It-Yourself, Uncooked, Frozen, Free Range, Complete, Tinned, Pouched, Organic, Natural, Hypo-allergenic, and on and on. Also, you will find ideas on the very best dog food, as there are brandnames and types of food. Some opinions are more like emotionally charged reactions than suggestions. No kidding. My head was swimming through this process. Poor Frank, at the same time, was just waiting "anxiously" for comforting dog food. I did considerable investigation on hypoallergenic dog food features with dog aficionados, champion dog owners, dog trainers, and, of course, a few were actually on-line. This is what I uncovered plus what we at Hypo-Allergenic Dog Food Home are advocating you start out with for your best dog pal.

One does need to analyze the dog food labels. My Behaviorist was right. It is by analyzing the ingredients that you can be sure to buy the best food for you dog's needs. One point that remains consistent: you get what you shell out for. Whole grains, natural products, high quality organ meats, fish and chicken are expensive. Big bag dog food companies use fillers, additives, colorants, and chemical preservatives to sell you a cheap bag of dog food with a relatively long shelf-life. That is not the most effective way to preserve the life of your dog; but it is the best way to preserve the shelf-life of your dog food. We absolutely love our dog and want him to live well beyond the typical 11-15 years.

To that end, the hypoallergenic dog foods below warrant your attention.

Arden Grange - kibble

NatureDiet - Biologically Appropriate Raw Food

Canidae Dog Food - Natural, economical solution

Acana Dog Food - Organic, no dies, no colors, no chemicals

Sojourn Dog Food - Mix It Yourself

Natures Variety - Natural, BARF, Grain Free, Various Meats Free

Flint River Ranch - Chemical Free, Hypoallergenic

Avoderm - Hypoallergenic dog food with avocado

Orijen - Natural

Caring For A Bearded Dragon

By Angie Blair

The pogona species of lizard, also known as the bearded dragon comes from the outback in Australia. More and more people are choosing to have these exotic creatures as household pets. They usually live between five to eight years but some have lives as long as twelve years.

They are known for being calm and not making too much noise. They also don;t need that much additional care making them good candidates to have as pets.

You should make sure your pet bearded dragon is fed the right diet. The lizard is an omnivore so this means they eat vegetables, fruit and insects. You can buy insects from pet stores or catch them outdoors or use carnivorous plants to catch them for you.

Another factor to consider in caring for your pet is providing them with the correct lighting. Your pet will need a special UVB light and a light that replicates real daylight. You should aim for fourteen hours of daylight and ten hours of darkness. They are used to living in the wild in dry, sunny regions and so they will need to have a similar environment recreated for them.

Try to buy the biggest tank you can afford as bearded lizards need space to move around as they would in the Australian outback. A ten to fifteen gallon tank is enough for a baby but a grown lizard will likely need a fifty to fifty - five gallon space. The more space the better as your animal will want to roam.

Bearded dragons also have a natural need to hide, climb and perch. Make sure their living quarters take this into account as they need to stay active throughout their day. There are many items you can buy for their living space to help you achieve this.

All about Kennel?

By Natalija Djuric

American English often uses the word "doghouse" in this context; in British English the term "kennel" is preferred, but the phrase "in the doghouse" is understood but does not mean "in the kennel", rather it is a colloquial phrase meaning (of a person) "in trouble" or "being shunned". Used in the plural, the kennels, the term means any building, collection of buildings or a property in which dogs are housed, maintained, and bred. A kennel is the name given to any structure or shelter for dogs. A kennel is a doghouse, run, or other small structure in which a dog is kept.

A kennel name or kennel prefix is a name associated with each breeding kennel: it is the first part of the registered name of a pedigreed dog which was bred there. This is a formal establishment for the propagation of purebred dogs, whether or not the animals are actually housed in a separate shed, the garage, a state-of the-art facility, or the family dwelling. Breeding kennels are heavily regulated and must follow rules laid down by the breed club, the kennel council, and relevant legislation.

Many kennels offer one-on-one "play times" in order to get the animal out of the kennel environment. Familiar objects, such as blankets and toys from home, are also permitted at many kennels. This is a place where dogs are housed temporarily for a fee, an alternative to using a pet sitter. Although many people worry about the stress placed on the animal by being put in an unfamiliar and most likely crowded environment, the majority of boarding kennels work to reduce stress.

In the United States the term boarding kennel is also used to refer to boarding catteries and licensing agencies do not always differentiate between commercial boarding kennels for dogs and other animal or cat boarding kennels. It is estimated that in 2008 people in the US will spend $3.29 billion on boarding and grooming services. In 2007 actual market surveys showed that $3.0 billion was spent on these services. Annual kennel boarding expenses for dog owners was $225, and for cat owners was $149 according to a 2007-2008 survey.

Such usage is obsolete. Two sports venues at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington have been nicknamed "The Kennel". This nickname is a play on the school's athletic nickname of "Bulldogs". "The Kennel" was first applied to the Charlotte Y. Martin Centre, home to the school's basketball teams from 1965 to 2004, and still used by the school's women's volleyball team. The "Kennel" nickname is still used for this venue, which has been replaced for basketball by: "The New Kennel", officially the McCarthey Athletic Center, which opened in November 2004. A pet crate can also be called a kennel. Kennel cough is a bronchitis-type contagious disease that affects dogs. The word kennel also formerly meant a drain channel for street waste water.

Proper Puppy Care

By Everette Hoover

Attention must be paid when taking care of puppies. Make a choice to dewclaw or dock-a-tail them when they are three days old. Having the procedure done at this age ensures proper healing of the wound.

All records of purebred puppies births and deaths should be kept for future use. Register the puppies early to avoid disappointment and have all necessary information ready for the buyers upon purchase.

The mother dog keeps her puppies clean during their first two weeks. However, the whelping box still needs constant cleaning, so have all dirty materials thrown away twice daily. The puppies will start to poop as they get older, making this task harder.

There is more activity as the puppies reach one month, limiting the space of the whelping box. Have them put into a bigger pen to keep them safe. Your things will also remain intact instead of being messed up by the puppies.

The puppies start taking solid food at five months old. Make sure to dilute the dry puppy food with warm water and mash it together. Feed the puppies two hours later.

Six month old puppies require vaccination and de-worming, as well as being checked for an defects or problems. You need to make sure that the puppies are suitable to be presented to their owners one month later.

Socialising with other puppies helps to detect any aggressive tendencies in your puppy, which can easily be detected through available tests. Aggressive puppies might give potential buyers a fright.

The puppies new owners can be notified when they reach seven months old. Have all the proper documentation and registration completed and sorted out so that the buyers can check them.

Although these few steps do not sound difficult to accomplish, complications can arise and cause you a lot of headache. Always prepare yourself for the worst.

Taking care of puppies is quite similar to caring for a child, as both require lots of attention and care. If you are well prepared, you can handle all situations.

Taking Care Of Your Pets

By Coleen Smith

Dogs, cats, lizards, and birds are just some of the varieties of friends that people adopt. When caring for their friend pet health is very important. Maintaining a healthy pet leads to having it live for a very long time without too many problems. Different kinds of pets have different needs, of course.

Dogs are one of the most common animals that are adopted and made part of a family. Plenty of exercise is required in order for your canine companion to stay healthy. Two walks each day is usually sufficient. It's also important to watch your dog's caloric intake. Just like with humans, eating too much can result in weight gain, which in turn can lead to a wide variety of health problems. Another similarity between dogs and people is their need for good dental care. Help keep your dog's teeth clean with hard treats and a toothbrush. Dogs tend to visit the veterinarian and incur more bills than other pets, so it's a smart idea to conduct a pet insurance comparison and select a policy to make sure the costs are covered. Following a few basic steps will promote a long and full life for the dog.

Another popular pet choice for families and individuals is a cat. Cats are more self dependent then their canine counterparts and do not require baths as they clean themselves. Walking them is unnecessary, which is good because no sane cat would consent to wearing a collar and a leash. Just playing with them is enough to give them some exercise. They do need good veterinary care, including vaccinations and teeth cleanings. By ensuring their teeth are in good shape will not only help them eat but will help prevent them from falling ill.

Although it may seem like a strange choice for a pet, many people adopt snakes. They make great pets but are not recommended for families with children under the age of five because they carry salmonella and can make a person quite ill. Because of this it is also recommended that after handling a snake wash your hands. Unlike cats, dogs and birds, snakes are solitary animals and prefer to avoid crowds. The recommended handling time is five minutes a day in order for the pet to get used to human contact. Also when setting up a home for the new snake having a terrarium is a good idea as this can be equipped with a heat lamp and thermometer so the temperature can be kept at a constant; which will provide a stable environment without being too hot or cold.

Fish are a fun animal to have as a pet. They do not do much except swim around but they are very cool to look at and adding items into their tanks for environmental reasons can be fun. A couple things to think about when setting up for health reasons are to make sure the tank is cleaned at least twice a month will prevent algae from growing. Also important is to never over feed the fish.

Birds are a great pet to have. They live in their cages and can be trained to be quite friendly. Of course you need to bring them out of their cage because they need attention from you. While they're out, they should fly or walk around the house a bit for exercise. They should always have fresh water available and plenty of food.

Rabbits are also a common choice when choosing a new member of the family. Rabbits can be skittish and their natural instinct is to run away from anything that startles them. Because of this, many rabbits are shy and it's difficult to hold them. Because of this instinct rabbits tend to like to be alone and love to spend time in their enclosures. When choosing a living space it is better to get a larger area for the rabbit to have lots of room to run around and play in. Keeping the water bowl full and feeding twice a day will ensure a long and healthy life.

People have kept pets for many years and will continue to do so. Animals add a great deal to our lives. Your job as a pet owner is to keep your pets healthy so they'll be around for a long time to come.

Pros and Cons of Owning Chickens

By Jerry Gallo

There are so many reasons why someone would want or wouldn't want a chicken in their backyard. There are debates about it so here are some of the pros and cons of becoming a chicken owner. There are not many cons and I had to really stretch to get them, but I gave you a couple because that's why you are here. But yes, I love chickens and after reading this article hopefully you will realize that they are amazing pets and the pros definitely outweigh the cons.

1. Costs incredibly cheap. - When we say cheap, not only does the chicken itself count but also the maintenance of it all. Compared to keeping a dog or a cat for a pet, it is much cheaper to take care of a number of chickens most likely because they are not choosy when it comes to food. You can feed them scraps and table leftovers and they will happily gobble it up. With as little as $2 a day, you can spend on a bunch of layer mash.

2. They lay eggs and unfortunately can be eaten. - Chickens will lay you fresh eggs to eat all the time. What other pet is going to deliver you delicious food on a regular basis. If you don't eat eggs, you can sell them. I think this is the main selling point on buying chickens. Although I don't want to mention it, I know I must because it is another main reason people get chickens. They of course can be killed and eaten. I personally do not do this, but I know many chicken owners do, so yes, this is another pro for owning chickens.

3. Extremely low maintenance. - Dogs and cats, your typical pets, require a lot of maintenance. You need to groom them, take them to the vet, take them out for walks and give them a ton of your attention. Chickens on the other hand, require very little and none of the above. You need to feed your chickens and give them fresh water every day. Their coops need to be clean at least once a week, which is not difficult if you have a decent chicken coop. They don't need your attention and are perfectly content with roaming your yard all day, but I would hang out with them occasionally because they are very fun animals.

4. Fertilizers for free and an instant pest control agent. - These are the two things that chicken raisers love about owning a chicken. When you allow your chickens to roam around your backyard, it is in their nature to peck on whatever it is that catches their interest and their hunger. Chickens love anything that came from the ground most especially the ones that are moving. They eat insects, bugs, worms and the like. For them, these are special treats. Furthermore, it is in their nature to eradicate their internal wastes anywhere they please. But their poops are considered as natural fertilizers that the ground needs to grow plants and root crops in a healthy state.

Now for the cons of owning chickens. These two stretches for cons are the only things I could come up with, because nobody wants to read a completely biased article. So here they are. First off, chickens are messy pets. They poop a lot, and like I said before this is great fertilizer, but when they are pooping all over the coop it can get gross. So you will need to keep their coops clean so your chickens do not get sick. Which leads me to the second con of pet chickens, when one of your chickens gets sick, it is likely that most of them will get sick. That is why it is vital to make sure they are living in a healthy environment.

Pet Photography Tricks

By Ethan Wallace

Pets are a part of the family. No wonder people love to take so many pictures of their pets. However, pets may not be supportive in getting their pictures clicked. Photographing your pet is not an easy task at all.You need lot of patience and camera film to click on nice photograph. You do not need a special camera for clicking your pets photograph.

Some of the least expensive cameras have been used to click some of the best pet shots. You can also enlarge the photos of your pets clicked by the easy-to-use-cameras currently available. The negative will be larger with the help of a 35mm camera and thus the enlarged photo would appear crisp. Pre-focusing on an area and snapping when the pet enters that particular area would be a very efficient move.

For instance, a spool of thread thrown on the floor will attract your cat like a magnet. You could take a lot of pictures when the cat comes close to the spool of thread, so you will need to focus on the thread. You can invite a dog into the focus area with the help of some noise and then take its pictures. You can distract a dog by making some noise and then take pictures when it jumps into action. Even in this case, you should use pre-focusing.

Ask another person to throw a Frisbee or a bone on a particular spot where you'd focus, and as soon as your dog enters the frame, you could start clicking amazing pictures of your dog in action. Try to click a child playing with the pet; you could end up with a mesmerizing photograph.

You can add impact to your pet shots if you remember these tips. Take the pictures of your kids and pets playing from the level at which they are seated. Bend on your knees to get the child's and the pet's level. Try to fill the frame with the picture of the animal by being closer to it. Just like people, pets have distinct facial expressions that only a close up can capture.

A tight close up could make the bars of a cage disappear. While photographing fish in an aquarium, use the same technique. Try getting as many good shots as possible. A lot of patience is involved in taking good shots of your pets.

Always remember to take lots of shots when the pet is in a good and cooperative mood. A lot of professional photographers have claimed that the more number of snaps clicked; higher the chances are to produce exclusive and appealing photographs. Go ahead; snap as much as you can to get more classy pictures. You will see that is especially true when you are clicking pictures of hard-to-click pets.

How To Paint Blind

By Joshua Ward

Although there has been much talk when it came to how they favor certain students at a guide dogs school for the blind, the teachers who hung a portrait of one of the graduates said that there was no favoritism in their institution. It was actually a portrait done of Jeannie the golden retriever, she is now working for a lady from Denver, Colorado. A portrait of Jeannie was painted by an artist who lost her ability to see a few years back. Serving as her release especially when it came to the time when she learned that she was going blind was painting. Actually, most of her paintings before her battle with blindness focused on the Indian life in Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona. Where does she go from here?

What she considers essential is being able to clarify her ideas. It is her mind which is very powerful when it comes to the images she puts on the canvas. She has long stopped with the usage of pins for outlines when she discovered how they could be damaging to the canvasses. Pins are no longer necessary when it comes to her painting.

The painting of Jeannie was actually started with a line drawing made with a crayon. Using a paint brush in her right hand, she follows the raised crayon outline.

Jeannie was transferred to the care of this artist and that was when Jeannie was described by the instructor at the school. Golden and brown with a little bit of bronze, much like the setting sun, is how Jeannie was described by her instructor. The way she differentiates pigments is by using her sense of smell and she sees to it that she only uses two to three colors at a time.

She wanted the tail to be proud and fluffy and so she used her finger for this part but for the rest of the portrait, she used a small paint brush. There was a person who asked her whether or not she feels the frustration of not being able to see her works of art but she said that she knew perfectly well how each of her paintings looked. When it comes to the painting of Jeannie, she said that Jeannie growled in approval.

There was no doubt in her mind that she did good. Coming from the guide dogs school for the blind, she is able to live a pretty normal life. A lot of the graduates from this school have steady jobs. Volunteers are able to assist the blind when it comes to this school which spends a total cost of $1700 to train a single man and dog team, the students pay for nothing.

Finding High Quality Orthopedic Dog Beds

By John Goodyear

There are two main types of lining for an orthopedic dog bed: memory foam and egg crate foam. In the case of orthopedic beds for humans, the first lining - memory foam, is used. The second - egg crate foam, is not. Memory foam offers maximum comfort for your spine and joints, reducing any pressure to pressure points. In this way it helps to preserve their health. You will not see an egg crate foam mattress for humans. You will only see egg crate foam mattress pads. This happens because this lining is not strong enough to support a human's weight. So it follows then that if you have a heavy dog, an egg crate foam orthopedic dog bed is probably not the best choice of dog bed filler. A memory foam dog bed does not have these limitations, so perhaps you want to concentrate on just looking at memory foam dog beds.

We will now continue with the detailed description of the 2 types of lining and their functioning. And you will see why egg crate foam is less suitable for larger dogs, and able to make a more informed decision on which type of bed to buy.

A Few Things About Memory Foam

One of the most significant characteristics of memory foam is that it is formed from a network of linked open cells. How this works is that whilst you lay on the bed, the body weight and pressure forces air to be redistributed across the network of neighboring cells. This allows for the foam to mold around your body and offer supreme comfort. The pressure points on your joints and spine are significantly reduced. So you can expect the same principle to apply to canines as well. A memory foam dog bed will offer your dog superior support to help relieve pressure on his joints, while providing supreme comfort.

The Properties of Egg Crate Foam Material

The name of this lining indicates pretty well its major visual characteristic while you look at it - it looks like a cardboard egg crate. So, similar to an egg crate, this foam has a number of dips and bumps. This makes it very easy to wear out if a human were to lay on it. As such it is not used as the core material in a human orthopedic mattress. But since dogs can be much lighter than humans, a model of an orthopedic dog bed made from this material may suffice for small dogs. But it may be insufficient to support breeds of large and weighty dogs. So this material is perhaps best passed over for large or heavy dogs.

Another thing that you want to think about is how your dog likes to sleep. Beds are made to accommodate these different sleeping styles. If he likes to curl up as he sleeps, then a rounded model is better, while if he stretches out a lot, then an orthopedic dog bed that is long and rectangular is recommended.

A Few Insiders Tips On Profitable Horse Sales

By Grace James

Horse sales are sometimes like promoting real estate property: primary opinions make a difference, plus the internal beauty is extra. You must ready them with the purchaser as the primary goal. Be entirely genuine with regards to the individuality and ability of the animals. Even if you're selling a magnificent, superior performing equine, it is crucial that you exhibit his character. Refer to an unusual quality or quirk that yours has.

You must publicize the sale adequately to obtain the optimum quantity of exposure. To market prior to the introduction of the net, you possibly had to buy ad space, generate brochures and post them on advertising boards, depend on referral marketing, hire a brokerage service or pay an auction company. The world wide web supplies a global horse market that gives real-world data to consumers.

The more materials you have when selling your animals, the better your chances. When using a text ad, it should be well-written, with proper grammar and appropriate details for the market. Videos or photos should be clear and present a professional appearance. If you post a grainy, out-of-focus image, people will associate the quality of the picture with the quality of the equine animal. As for videos, it is better to not make one at all than to make a poor one.

Make sure your advertisement communicates that you know what you are talking about. Be specific, and make sure that every word carries substantial weight. Give a brief introduction of the horse, explaining anything the buyer needs to know. Then let the animal do the talking. Many equine traders have the tendency to talk constantly as the buyer looks over the horse and takes him for a test drive.

When you are marketing any type of property, your goal is probably to make a profit. Negotiation is expected, so don't list yours at the lowest price you'll possibly accept. Increase the price about $500 or $600 over what you are willing to take, then let the buyer negotiate you down. If you need to move them quickly, consider dropping the price.

Marketing can be quite an annoying and tiring task, but at some point you should complete the sale. It can be challenging, plus it requires time to master your techniques. If you've been promoting equines for just about any duration of time, you understand that all potential buyers are very different. In spite of this, etiquette is essential in the market, and you may easily make enemies if you ever are careless in handling prospective buyers.

The old warning about letting the buyer be warned, absolutely is applicable in terms of selling and buying equine creatures. Also, watch out for ripoffs whereby international consumers want to offer you more than you are asking, without even seeing your merchandise. Another red flag should be when someone proposes an option that requires any type of money advance from you.

You will find several factors while preparing for horse sales. You must sustain troublesome, but proper grooming tasks, in an effort to keep the animals looking and feeling their best Clear, honest communication, while anticipating the demands of prospective buyers, usually gains their trust and their business.

Pet friendly walking routes in Devon

By Matty Chessington

Whilst there are plenty of walking books covering North Devon, only a few contain useful advice on the dog friendliness of each walk. Responsible dog owners know how important it is to respect other users of the countryside by keeping their dogs under control, particularly when close to livestock.

The Exmoor valleys around Badgworthy Water have been made famous by R D Blackmore's novel Lorna Doone. This is the heart of wild Exmoor where the landscape ranges from open, grass and heather-covered moor to delightful enclosed valleys. You're very likely to encounter livestock on this walk, so keep your lead handy at all times and make sure your hound is well under control.

There is a 5 mile walk starting from Malmsmead that heads southeast up Lank Coombe past the Blackmore Memorial, which is a large boulder with a metal plaque that was set up in 1969 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Lorna Doone's publication. The walk continues past a footbridge, and keeps to the right of Badgworthy Water. Towards the top of the coombe, the walk passes the waterslide where John Ridd scrambled up and collapsed on the grass a little further up. It was here he was found by the 9 year old Lorna. After the waterslide and beyond the trees, walkers reach the highest point of the walk with fine views across Exmoor. They can then bear right to join the track back to Badgworthy Water. Dippers, kingfishers and mallard ducks can be found at this lovely spot, the childhood haunt of John Ridd.

Walkers and their dogs can then retrace their steps back to the footbridge and cross it, passing Cloud Farm. The walk continues along a farm road and tracks towards Oare Church and House and returns to Malmsmead along delightful riverside paths.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of a stay in glorious North Devon is the stunning scenery and abundance of walks. Some visitors are looking for pet friendly holidays and among those wishing to bring their dogs, many are seeking out dog friendly caravan parks. Once they have settled in, dog owners looking for a healthy walk for young dogs can head for Exmoor where the rugged terrain is ideal. There is also gentler countryside in North Devon where a streamside amble may be just right for older dogs. Whatever their needs, dog owners have come to the right place to find walks perfect for man's best friend.

These are a few tips to help you as you get started, but when you are prepared for more complicated training with your Shih Tzu, you should seek help from a talented coach in your area.

Shih Tzu Tip Number 1

The 1st Shih Tzu training tip is for you to have fun with your training attempts. Even though there are numerous different methodologies you can use when training your dog, try to have a light hearted attitude about everything you try. The experience has to be pleasurable for you as well as your dog or he will not reply positively.

Letting your Cat Do Training

By Jessica Page

Known to be one of the smartest creatures among all animals, cats can be handled without investing so much effort and having them as your pet can truly be worthwhile.

Surely you are interested in applying the necessary training to your cat and learning the correct ways. First of all, it is obvious that you should provide a name for your cat and ascertain that your cat will be acquainted to its name and can give a response when being called. Do that name calling repetitively until your cat will be able to distinguish its own name.

Providing Something to Scratch

There are many needs that the cat requires including satisfying its feed and thirst requirements, and also they should be given a place where they can strop their claws, and they also need toys and other items that will keep them interested in them. Not including a scratching post in the cat training exercise will mean that the cat won't have any other alternative than to sharpen its claws on whatever comes in its way including your expensive sofa, or carpet, or anything else it finds that it likes to scratch.

Aside from giving something to scratch, you must also provide them a certain object that it can play with. You can give them old toys for them to play and even gnaw on them. This is an important act to eschew them from damaging your precious things like your shoes, slippers and even your pillows.

Cat training however should not mean giving your cat a beating or hitting it, which will only make the cat afraid and in any case the cat cannot correlate the hitting with misbehavior. All that you need to do to let the cat know it is doing something wrong is to firmly say 'no' or you can even clap your hands to let it know that its actions are inappropriate. No doubt, the cat still cannot understand your words, though it will understand the harshness of your tone, which will make it realize it is doing something wrong.

There are also instances when your words would not be sufficient to discipline your cat when it does something that is improper. In that case, you can use a water sprayer and spray it on the cat's face to make the cat be mindful about its false actions.

But if there are moments when what your cat did was nice, it is also advisable to include rewards in your training. Doing this can also let the cat know that what it did was good and will maintain that action all the time.

Trimming the dog's coat

By Jerry Welsh

Maintaining the impressive appearance of the pet's coat would be one of the priorities of dog owners given that the coat is considered to be the crowning glory of a dog. Apart from being well loved pets these efforts are done because the appearance of the pet is a reflection on the care given by the owner. Different breeds of dogs require different kinds of maintenance. Clipping, stripping and trimming are procedures used in grooming the dog's coat. What procedure would you use for your pet?

The type of grooming procedure for the pet's coat would depend on breed characteristics and also on the specific function of the pet. Dogs that are mostly kept as home companions do not really receive too much attention. As long as bathing and regular brushing keeps the fur clean and the pet healthy, both the pet and the owner would be happy.

Owners of show dogs purposely choose different grooming procedures to ensure the tip top condition of the dog's coat. Regular brushing would not be enough for these dogs because the coat still has to be stripped and trimmed. Stripping and trimming are primarily done to give the dog a well balanced and shapelier look thus these procedure will be wasted on short and smooth coated breeds. Trimming is done on long coated dogs to control the excessive amount of shedding inside the home. Owners of show dogs commonly submit the pet to the trimming procedure to achieve breed conformation. The trimming procedure is usually done after the coat that was stripped has grown a bit.

Professional groomers no doubt can do the job much better but getting the services of a groomer every time the pet needs to be groomed can be very expensive. Trimming the pet can be easily learned by a determined dog owner. As starters, it would be best to get the pet in a comfortable position. A leash can be used to restrict the movement of the pet. Petting and talking to the pet for a while and getting the pet accustomed to the sound of the clipper before starting the procedure would help calm the pet.

Before trimming the hair of the pet it would be a good idea to brush the coat thoroughly to remove tangles and also to take note of the parts which need to be trimmed. Use the clipper first on the top and sides of the body as these are the least sensitive body parts of the dog. The hair on the chest, tail and paws will be the next. Hair on the head and face are trimmed as well but be very careful not to nick the dog.

Have You Considered About Dog Bark Collars? Look Over Here.

By David Mills

No matter how much we love our pet dogs we don't like to hear them barking incessantly. Not only is the noise intolerable but excessive barking can affect your dog adversely. It is difficult to train and control young dogs. Pet owners have tried many futile techniques to control excessive barking. Now, with the help of modern dog bark collars it is easy to discipline your dog.

Dog bark collars are smart electronic collars that deliver a deterrent or aversive when ever the dog barks. Collars with different types of deterrents are available. Some produce an electric shock, some produce ultrasonic sounds and some others produce some sort of repulsive spray.

Such devices might sound cruel but they are perfectly safe and only cause minor inconvenience. Remember Pavlov's experiment?, dog bark collars are based on the same principle, the dog gradually learns to associate barking with the aversive.

You must remove the collar once your dog is trained. The collars incorporate multiple bark detection sensors to prevent false triggers. The electronic shock triggers are the most popular of the lot, they have contact electrodes on the collar that deliver the shock. The intensity and duration of the electric pulses are automatically controlled, they are non-lethal and perfectly safe. Electronic dog bark collars are powered by rechargeable batteries. Some of the premium models feature GPS trackers that enable you to track your dogs even on the internet. If you want to quickly discipline your dog buy a dog bark collar.

Manufactured using quality materials, the collars are tough and waterproof. Make sure you are clear regarding what will be the best deterrent for your dog. You can choose an ultrasonic or spray model if you don't like the idea of using an electric shock collar. Note that spray models need to be periodically refilled with what ever substance they use. Also keep in mind that not all dogs make the association between barking and deterrent, in such cases the collar proves ineffective and in turn can lead to fear and hostile behavior.

This is also true with same sex or even identical breed of dog pet dogs. They usually are raised to just accept additional household pets in your house, even little animals. An amazing pet rescue story: MORRIS THE THREE LEGGED CAT

By Victoria Cameron

I have always been an animal lover, since a young age. My first cat that I can remember didn't come to us - we found her. She was an orangecat, resembling the famous Morris from commercials. When we found her, she was caught in a trap near her ankle. My mother promptly rescuedher, and we rushed Morris to the vet. While there, she was stitched up and sent back home. We brought her back, and nursed her back to health, and I was in love with this sweet kitty. No one seemed to know where she belonged, so we adopted her. As she started to heal, we would occasionally let her outside. She would just wander around and come back inside.

Then one day, she just didn't come back. We couldn't find her anywhere. Through tears, we searched the neighborhood and asked everyone if they had seen her. We didn't find Morris until the next day. She had wandered into our horse pasture, where one of the horses had stepped on her. Her hip area and leg were crushed. We took her back to the vet, and he recommended euthanizing her.

Of course, my mother and I would not hear of it. The vet told us he couldn't put the damage back together, but offered hope if he amputated the leg. We agreed and her back leg was taken off. Morris had a long recovery while her amputated area healed. She had to learn to compensate without a limb and to walk on three legs. She wasn't slowed down for long. Whether it was because she was young, or just had a big heart, soon she was not only navigating with her missing leg, but in fact leaping onto the couches and beds. She would still go outside and chase butterflies on occasion, but was for the most part an indoor cat.

Morris lived for 16 years with us. She was an inspiration for me in overcoming adversity, and the way that my mom valued the life of even one of the smallest creatures. It instilled in me the importance of pets, and while Morris is now long gone, she lives in my memory. When she became too old to navigate on her three legs and could no longer make it to the litter box, we decided it was best to let her rest.

We took her to the vet, and she fell asleep in my mum's arms. Morris was only the beginning of my love affair with cats. I have always had at least one cat in my home, and just recently I found another rescue - a little kitten dropped off at Waffle House on Christmas Day. The story continues with my new kitten, a little black ball of fur that I have named Christmas.

How To Stop Dog Aggression

By Santos Mccoy

We all love our dogs. They are a part of our family and we want them to be safe and happy. However if you have an assertive dog then you know that things are not well with your 4 leg family member. An assertive dog is dangerous to you, other dogs, and people and this is often awfully frightening. You will have attempted different techniques to curb this aggression only to find yourself keeping your dog away from folks, other dogs, and situations where he might be assertive. While this will prevent an attack, it is doing make for a sad dog and an unhappy dog owner. To fix this issue, it needs a real complete approach to cure your dog of aggression.

Some dogs are assertive against people; some are aggressive against other dogs. If your dog is assertive by barking, snapping, and behaving in a menacing demeanor to mates, folk walking by the house or that you pass by on a walk than you know that something has to modify.

Your dog's health is the first thing to investigate when exhibiting signs of aggression. A trip to the vet will cross out a possible health problem. A sick dog or a dog that is in pain is more likely to show indications of aggression to guard it from harm.

After governing out potential health issues, it is time to begin to train your dog. It's very important that you're the dominant one in your relationship with the dog and that your dog looks to you for choices. This takes much practice. Many use treats or some type of other reward to coach the dog to target you and that behaving in a way that you expect is what brings positive re-strengthening.

A dog exhibiting dominance is a standard source of aggression towards other dogs. Again, a good way to correct that difficulty is to train your dog to target you for direction. This is going to be done in a safe environment for the dog where she will feel at ease. In this training, you target your dog to concentrate on you. The dog follows your direction and is rewarded when your dog behaves properly. When your dog concentrates on you, give it a reward. Soon, you can try walking past another dog and use this method. If your dog begins to show aggression, use your focus command and with enough training, your dog will concentrate on you, and not the other dog.

Mobile Chicken Coop - The Reason Why Having A Portable Poultry House Is A Good Approach

By Ronald Dotson

If you're planning to build a yard coop, you might want to consider building a mobile chicken coop instead. It's got a lot of advantages; some of which are enumerated below.

Why a mobile coop?

Mobile chicken homes are simple build, straightforward to clean and lessens possible issues caused by consistently changing weather. Dependent on how you design it, the price could be under that of fixed structures.

Who should build a mobile coop?

A chicken owner with a maximum number of 12 chickens can employ a mobile coop. For people who live in an area where the weather changes often, especially in locations where unexpected rains are very common, a movable or mobile coop will be ideal.

A cartable structure is also suggested to those that do not have a trustworthy protecting fence around their property. At night, when there is not any one to look in on the chickens from time to time, the coop can be moved within a garage, a shed or a storage room.

What materials should be used?

The selling point of a transportable coop is the ease by which it can be moved from place to place; therefore, light materials are your best bet. This doesn't mean though, that you are going to be sacrificing durability and protection for your chickens.

Some of the commoner materials employed in making a mobile chicken house are wire mesh or welded wire, panels and PVC materials for the roof and side coverings and wood for framing.

How is a mobile coop built?

It all begins with the framing. The frame should be of wood. The common shape is square or triangular. The body will be made of wire, with part of the sides covered by PVC panels.

Covering just the roof or 1/2 the coop with the panels provide proper ventilation, with the choice to move the covering dependent on where the sun is situated on a given point of day.

If you selected to have a wheeled coop, it will make it less complicated for you to move the structure from one place to another. It can act as a safety precaution and also as a technique for providing fresh pecking areas for the chickens.

A mobile chicken coop is the best choice for those who own a small number of chickens and for owners who don't have the posh to spend a lot of time checking on their flock.

How A Pet Can Benefit Your Family

By Maddison Sanders

There is a magical bond between children and pets no matter what animal it is. Once you welcome any animal into your home, you are also allowing it into your heart. Dogs, cats, rabbitsand even smaller creatures such as mice and hamsters all make ideal pets for your children. Although you may be drawn to the animals in the local pet shop, you need to be aware that there are many others in animal shelters all over the country.

Even the animals that you might not necessarily think about such as rabbits, will allow your family to bond. Enhancing the family time you have together, and allowing your children to develop new skills. Animals are very calming to have in the home, and will offer your children an opportunity to have responsibility. Although some animals are thought to be far too independent such as cats, you will be surprised how close they are to your children, and become part of the family very quickly. Having a pet can teach your children how to look after something other than just them. They can learn the basics of pet care, and how to be responsible for an animal. Responsibility is a great skill to learn and will benefit them in older life. As your child begins to take care of the pet they will begin to understand more about the environment they live in. No matter what animal you decide to give a home to, whether it be rabbits, dogs or cats your children will learn so much from having them there.

Children who grow up with pets in the house have been proved to be healthier and happier children. They are less likely to suffer from obesity, and often their social skills will be far better developed than other children. Stress has also been proven to be reduced when there is a pet in the home, and they can also stop a daily routine becoming boring. It is surprising how much the whole family will benefit from having something as simple as pet rabbits. Although these are not the conventional type of pets such as cats and dogs they are still great animals to own.

Adopting animals is a great idea, and if you can help by getting one from the local animal shelter it is even better. There are far too many dogs, cats, rabbits and other small domestic animals in the shelters all needing good homes. If you can offer just one of these animals another chance of a new life they will appreciate it forever. You will find that animals from the shelters are very affectionate, and will be lifelong friends to you and your children.

Unlike some dogs from the shelter you will not need to be as wary when giving rabbits or cats a home. They are less likely to be aggressive, and will need less care than a bigger animal. No matter what animal you decide on they will bring many years of happiness and love to your whole family. Your children will grow up with a friend for life, and you will have a companion even after the children have left home. The hardest decision you will have is choosing from the hundreds of different animals that are on offer.

Attracting Hummingbirds by Meeting their Basic Needs

By Trevor Sam

Every species of bird require water, food, nesting spots and shelter and people who understand the basic needs of hummingbirds can attract a lot of tem to their garden.

When it comes to food, the main thing really to keep in mind is it's a basic need for every creature in the planet, and thus probably the most important one. For hummingbirds, you can provide them with food by either growing the right kind of plants that they like to feed on, with small insects they can eat, and also have your garden enhanced with feeders they can visit.

Plants - The hummingbirds frequently feed on flowers rich with nectar, and planting these kinds of flowers will easily attract a large number of the birds. Though red color is quite attractive to the hummingbirds, the presence of plenty of nectar in the flowers is the most important factor. Flowers like petunias, salvias, impatiens, bleeding hearts, columbine, bee balm, honeysuckles and several other flowers, trees and species of shrubs attract different kinds of hummingbirds. People, who prefer non-red colored flowers, can add purple or red gazing balls which will also attract the birds.

Now, still related to food, are insects. Though hummingbirds just love feeding on nectar, they also like to mix up their diet with spiders and a few insects. So further attract these hummingbirds, you can allow insects in your garden, and also not use insecticides or pesticides. Keep in mind if you use these you're also killing their source of food, and you might be endangering the lives of the hummingbirds also.

Feeders - A very common way of attracting hummingbirds to the garden is by keeping a nectar feeder. A large variety of feeder styles are available in the market including inverted tubes, saucer disks and gel packs. Feeders also come with ant, bees and hornet guards and are mostly colored red, for attracting the hummingbirds. You can use the commercial nectar concentrates or more preferably the nectar solution made at home in the feeders.

Water - Apart from meeting the hummingbird's need of food, you should also be meeting their need for play. And you can do that by placing fresh and clean water sources that are dripping or moving near the nectar-rich flowers. This way, hummingbirds can go for a bit of play in the moving water after they enjoy the nectar.

So we've already addressed their need for food and play, the next thing we should be thinking of is their need for nesting spots. Unlike other birds, hummingbirds prefer to build their cup-shaped nests in shrubs, trees, and along wires or clotheslines. It'd be a good idea then to have a few native plants dotting your garden where they can safely build their nests and will make your garden even more attractive. You can go a step further by also placing proper nesting materials like fine lint, animal fur, and small lengths of string that the hummingbirds can pick up.

Shelter - Hummingbirds look for shelter or perching to preen or rest while they are not feeding. You can provide perches like clotheslines, thin poles and vines, wires, trellises and various levels of shrubbery to give them suitable shelter. As, many of the hummingbirds are quiet aggressive, they also prefer perches with good field of view for protecting their territories. To attract more hummingbirds, position the perching shrubs and plants near the food sources.

Attracting Hummingbirds to your Garden

By Rolland Arthur

You can do various things to your garden to make it hummingbird friendly and attract more of these birds. Even if you stay in the city's middle and didn't have any luck getting these birds in the past, you can soon have them around your garden by following some simple steps.

Setting up hummingbird feeders is a great way to attract them. The feeders should be filled with artificial sugar water solution made at home. Some red flowers can be hanged on a basket or planted near the feeders. This will make it easier for the birds to find the feeders, as they will be attracted to the red flowers. It should be remembered that these birds only rely on sites to find their food source as they do not have any sense of smell.

The hummingbirds are attracted to the red color, so any feeder having red on it will attract the birds. If your feeder doesn't have the red color, an artificial red flower can be tied to the feeder and stay away from using the red food coloring in the sugar water which is harmful to them. You must also remember that the hummingbirds are very territorial. Male hummers may show their dominance by hovering or chasing away the other hummers from their feeders. So you can add other hummingbird feeders to your garden and thereby attract more of these birds.

Setting up hummingbird feeders is a very popular method to attract hummingbirds to the garden. You can use the homemade nectar solution of sugar water in the feeders to feed the birds. Hanging some red flowers or planting them near the feeders will make the hummingbirds easily find the feeders.

Planting a hummingbird garden with their favorite plants will attract more and more of the birds. A few plants which you can consider planting are manzanita, butterfly busch, azalea, honeysuckle, bee balm, coral bells, columbine, cardinal flowers, petunia, shrimp plant, etc. You should note that none of these plants have to be red colored to attract the birds. Also, you can check with your local nursery if having any doubts, whether any of them will flourish in your garden area.

Avoid using pesticides in your hummingbird garden as they can kill or sicken the birds if consumed. Also, the insects you want to kill off can serve as good protein source to the birds. Sometimes, the male hummingbirds may try to chase away the other hummers from the feeders. To prevent this you can add several other feeders to your garden.

Insects like ants and bees may invade your garden and feeders and drive away the hummingbirds. You have to use the feeders with built-in bee guards and attach moats or nectar protectors on the feeders to control their invasion. These steps will ensure that your garden continues attracting the hummingbirds.
