Doberman Facts And Myths

By Tod Jackson

Facts as well as misconceptions are plenty when it comes to Dobermans. Of course, the particular myths are usually assumed accusations by people who have either never owned the breed or who have been unsuccessful in training one. Probably the most special dogs available! They are beautiful to look at, extremely smart, devoted and also quite emotional. Don't be misled by their tough exterior as they also can get their feelings hurt.

Dobermans are usually Impossible to Train

MYTH: They are some of the highest trainable dogs available, however , you need to gain their respect so they pay attention to your instructions. Many individuals assume that they are impossible to train because they are naturally aggressive but that is simply not the case. There is no doubt that with steady training they'll grow up to be very obedient, eventhough at a early age it may not seem to be that way as they are very independent.

Dobermans are Pushy and Stubborn

FACT:
From various types of dogs, they are bred to be alpha dogs.

They'll definitely push you around and test your buttons as soon as you add their intelligent mind to the mix. The respect and leader position will come to you if you do it correctly. It is advised to choose another breed if you're a first time owner, as they will quickly rule the house.

All Dobermans Turn on Their Owners

MYTH:
It is extremely unusual that a Doberman will turn against it's owner without a valid reason, eventhough they are capable of it. He will not feel like he needs to strike if he is trained properly and is well respected. Dobermans are sensitive and when they're yelled at, overlooked or abused, they'll turn because they have a good reason to.

Biting Is a concern With Dobermans

FACT: Yes this is true, however they usually won't bite unless of course they have a valid reason to. Just because they may be prone to doing something does not always mean that they always will do it. Usually when they do bite it's because they are safeguarding their owner or had not been socialized properly. A problem seen when they grow to be adults is the progression of their young play biting days, they must be taught at that early age not to play bite in any way.

Dobermans are often viewed as an aggressive breed, but with the right leader and proper training they can be very good domestic pets.
