Hypoallergenic Dog Food is the Best Bet For Your Dog's Health

By Maria Rockwell

What is hypo-allergenic dog food? Well, the answer to that query is the reason for this post. You might think it is solely to offer you a product of dog food, but it isn't. Our dog must have specialized food for psychological difficulties. I understand that sounds absurd: "He's a Dog! Yes, he is a DOG and we ADORE DOG!

Due to being an abuse shelter puppy, Frank has always been nervous and anxious. Then, he is a black lab breed, which makes him especially high strung and hyper. By itself, this is not that much of a problem. Unfortunately, Frank has started seriously biting when he gets excited, nervous or threatened. That is very scary for our family.

When first we elicited the help of a Canine Behaviorist, she focused right away on the dog food we were feeding Frank. Get him off Junk Food. What? I didn't know there was any such thing. She went on further to say this: Some dogs are hyper-sensitive to many products that show up in their processed food. The typical dog owner has no real understanding of what exactly they are feeding their dog when they are feeding the least expensive Big Dog Food Manufacturer's products. If they had any notion, they would be sickened. Now that I know a little about the subject, I am disgusted and I feel lousy that many of my dog's problems are caused by bad dog food that I give him. Live, learn, and change bad habits.

Our Behaviorist taught us that we needed to get food with absolutely no corn or chemical preservatives. She wanted us to get pure, all natural, balanced dog food for him immediately. That is easier said than done. The Behaviorist resisted getting into the "Best Dog Food in the World" debate. She said to read what is on the bag. Well, gee whiz, okay.

Apparently being part of the last century, I jumped into the car (hey, it's a Prius, at least) and set out to the local pet shop to get the Big Dog some corn-free, balanced and additie free dog food. Ha ha. No can do. I essentially couldn't get such a thing at PetCo, PetSmart, PetLane or the Feed Store and I definitely couldn't find anything at the red bull's eye store, Walmart or SaveMart. Whole Foods did have a few little tiny bags of organic dog food which cost an arm and a leg. Frank eats a lot. He weighs in at over 80 pounds.

Oh yea, furthermore, as it happens dog food comes in numerous feeding variations. And one learns this how? Dried Kibble, Holistic, BARF (this is a charming acronym for Biologically Appropriate RAW ), Mix-It-Yourself, Uncooked, Frozen, Free Range, Complete, Tinned, Pouched, Organic, Natural, Hypo-allergenic, and on and on. Also, you will find ideas on the very best dog food, as there are brandnames and types of food. Some opinions are more like emotionally charged reactions than suggestions. No kidding. My head was swimming through this process. Poor Frank, at the same time, was just waiting "anxiously" for comforting dog food. I did considerable investigation on hypoallergenic dog food features with dog aficionados, champion dog owners, dog trainers, and, of course, a few were actually on-line. This is what I uncovered plus what we at Hypo-Allergenic Dog Food Home are advocating you start out with for your best dog pal.

One does need to analyze the dog food labels. My Behaviorist was right. It is by analyzing the ingredients that you can be sure to buy the best food for you dog's needs. One point that remains consistent: you get what you shell out for. Whole grains, natural products, high quality organ meats, fish and chicken are expensive. Big bag dog food companies use fillers, additives, colorants, and chemical preservatives to sell you a cheap bag of dog food with a relatively long shelf-life. That is not the most effective way to preserve the life of your dog; but it is the best way to preserve the shelf-life of your dog food. We absolutely love our dog and want him to live well beyond the typical 11-15 years.

To that end, the hypoallergenic dog foods below warrant your attention.
