Top Fundraising Ideas

By Charles England

Fundraising is an essential element in the success and operation of charityorganizations these days. If you are an animal lover who would like to get involved with a good cause, then fundraising for the welfare of animals is a perfect fit.

There are many ways to help including volunteering. Go online or look in your newspapers to find events or shops that support the welfare of animals. Kids love to get involved in things, and they usually love animals. Turn this into not only fundraising, but an educational experience. One idea is to go directly to the RSPCA (for example) to learn about the animals and what they need. Volunteer to help. Going online and researching fundraising ideaswill open a whole new world to you.

Some of the top fundraising ideas are to have plant sales, raffles (maybe have someone donate a quilt for this?), get sponsored to walk/run/swim specific distances, and have rummage sales. Have a bake sale with the help of other families or put on a dance will all proceeds going to the animals. More ideas include dog walking, mowing grass, washing cars, and selling items such as chocolate bars, Christmas cards or books/magazine subscriptions. When you plan a fundraising event, make sure you clearly set your dates, times and expectations. People like to know definite plans and are more likely to support you when they can see definite results. More detailed planning and help is needed when planning a fundraiser like a fashion show, dance or silent auction. Even having a BBQ that you charge admission for or getting a booth at a flee market or fall fair to sell something like apple cider can raise quite a bit for your cause.

There are businesses which specialize in fundraising products so you will be able to have a variety of ideas to choose from. Make sure you know what fundraising campaigns are going on in your area so you don't get into competition with anyone...for example, girl guides selling cookies. If that is what you want to do, just choose another time of year to do that and this will keep everyone happy.

One of the larger organizations is the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA). They have been functioning in England all the way back to 1824 and are dependent on the generosity and help of people. Such a worthwhile group is always looking for ways to help animals and work with government for the betterment of animal welfare. Fundraising is a big part of their survival as well as that of the animals that desperately need people to save them. For the really adventurous fundraiser, visit their site and join their challenge which involves trips to exotic places!

What do you like to do to fundraise? How adventurous are you? Some diverse ideas range from marathons to sky-diving. If you can think of something that will challenge you, go out and get people to sponsor your endeavours. You may be surprised at how quickly you can garner support for your efforts and raise money to help the animals. Let your imagination go and get creative. Remember that this is not only for the animals, but we should have fun with our fundraising ideas. You may even fall in love and adopt an animal! If that isn't possible, you can always volunteer.
