How to stop excessive dog barking

Dog owners, in one time or another have to face problems regarding the behavior of the pet. The dog's tendency to soil the house and to chew destructively will only affect the owner. Excessive barking is a different concern as it also affects the neighbors. Unlike other canine behavior problems, excessive barking will also affect the neighbors. The noise made by an excessively barking dog will irritate not only to the owners but to the neighbors as well. This problem is aggravated by the fact that many dog owners are living close to each other in condos or in apartments

Barking is a natural dog behavior that is not always considered a problem. Barking is the dog's way of communicating with humans and animals. The dog's vocalization serves as a signal that warns the owners to possible territorial intrusion thus some dogs are actually valued for their propensity to bark. Barking becomes a people problem when it becomes excessive. Most dog owners are overwhelmed with the task of controlling the pet's excessive barking.

Many dog owners that were unsuccessful in managing this concern tend to abandon the pet. It is not impossible to correct the dog's excessive barking. Other stimulus provokes a dog to bark. Barking can be due to boredom and fear or excitement. To be able to address this concern, it is necessary to know what causes the dog to bark excessively.

Dogs bark if they are bored and lonely. If your pet is left alone for the better part of the day, it would be a good idea to get toys that will keep the dog busy. Dogs have to be provided with mental and physical exercises to prevent the formation of excessive barking and other destructive behaviors. Did you know that by teaching an excessively barking dog to bark you can actually manage this annoying habit? Teaching the dog to bark only when a command is given will desensitize the dog to the other stimulus that sets off excessive barking and more importantly, the training will sharpen the dog's natural instinct to bark when there is a potential danger. A soda can filled with coins as well as spray bottles are effective tools that can get a dog to stop barking.

An owner can opt to use ultrasonic devices and training collars that produce irritating sounds to stop the dog from barking. The unwanted behavior can simply be the pet's way to call the owners attention. Try giving the pet some attention and see if the barking behavior is modified.
