Calling All Dog Lovers! Allan Codling here. You're probably looking for dog training advice because you have a dog and you want to get them trained but don't quite know how to go about doing so. I felt that way when I first got a dog. So I wanted to show you 9 important fundamental steps to get on the right track to training your dog successfully.
Enjoy Your Training- Make your dog training sessions with your dog enjoyable and have fun while training your dog. Dogs can sense when you are having a good time and they too get excited. This helps the dog learn better. Take the training seriously but remember to be excited and show your dog your having fun by having a positive attitude.
Firm Voice - When you give commands to your dog, use a firm deep voice. Use a happy soft voice when he completes tasks or displays behavior.
Best Time To Begin Training- There is some dog training advice out there that recommends letting your dog reach a certain age before you start training your pup. The optimal time to train your puppy is about 6-8weeks old. They also say you can start even earlier depending on the breed. I strongly recommend you train the dog right away once you learn how to do it properly. When is the best time to train a dog? The answer is when the dog is untrained.
Don't Punish Your Dog- This may become very difficult to do especially if you are a new dog owner. But negative reinforcement is not as effective as positive reinforcement. Negative reinforcement dog training advice is just counterproductive. When you scream, yell, hit or punish your dog you make the dog fearful and on edge. Your dog will never know what to expect from you meaning whether you will be nice or mean. When the dog feels this way it interferes with his or her ability to listen, respond, and absorb your training.
Having Patience - While training your dog is rewarding fulfilling and fun, there are some trying moments where things can get a little frustrating. Have patience with your dog because he or she is trying and will learn with time and repetition. If for some reason you feel your getting frustrated, take a break. Dog's are intuitive and can sense when you are getting worked up. Just remember to have fun.
Extra Dog Training Advice- Training Sessions
Short and Sweet Sessions - Don't spend several hours a day training your dog. 15-30 minutes a day should be enough. Never bombard your dog with learning everything at once. Focus on one command at a time. And as you get more dog training advice on other methods, you will gradually move forward.
Remember to begin with basic commands and when your dog has mastered these instructions, gradually move on to more advance commands each session. Praise your dog with rewards and treats whe he or she completes a task.
Hold Your Dog's Attention- Dogs, especially puppies have a very hard time paying attention. The best way to make your dog concentrate is to isolate you and your dog in a room or at a park. Make sure you have a lot of your training sessions in your house so that the dog will be accustomed to how things go in your home such as what room to go to what room not to go to etc..
Be The One Who trains Your Dog- I always see people get dogs and do not want to take any part in training them so they enroll their dogs in training schools. Some opt to get their own dog trainer. There are 3 main disadvantages to doing that. Firstly you miss the opportunity to develop the bond between you and your dog and that bonding is crucial for the dog to see you as his or her leader. Secondly, your dog will not be fully understand how "you" want him or her to behave and live in your household. Thirdly, dog training schools and trainers are pretty expensive nowadays. Some even charge for just dog training advice and tips.
Follow Effective Dog Training Advice- If you are looking to learn how to train your dog you may be getting all sorts of advice from everywhere telling you to do this do that. There are a lot of good sources of dog training material out there.
