Animals that Should Never Share a Tank with your Betta Fish

This article lists sea life that definitely shouldn't be joined with bettas, and additionally some borderline fish that may be successful sharing a tank with your Betta.

Most of the sea life below are erroneously thought to be smart tank mates for bettas, but aren't for the reasons below:the following reasons:

- they prefer cooler water

- they prefer less acidic water

- they produce too much waste to keep your tank clean

- they may be active swimmers that will conflict with the territorial nature of your betta

- they may attack or bite your betta

This initial list of sea life are borderline candidates to share a tank with your Betta:

The Zebra Danios Species Zebra Danio is a sturdy creature that can stomach some betta combatitive actions. However, they may bother or bite your betta, so are not a terrific match. Furthermore, they enjoy a school of their own species and thrive in a lower temperature. If you do decide to match them with your betta, make sure your tank is big enough!

Wild or Feeder Guppies These species of Guppies are not brightly colored and timid, so could be a good tank companion for your betta. Despite this, try to stay away from the vividly pigmented Guppies with flowing fins, like as Fancy Guppies. Your betta fish may feel competitive with him and go on the offensive.

Neon Tetras Neon Tetras prefer most of the same preferences as betta fish, such as warm water, water acidity, plants and lighting. But they can occassionally nip the fins of your betta fish, which can cause confrontation. They also prefer big schools (a minimum of six fish) so a ten gallon tank or larger is preferred.

Rasboras These creatures can share a tank with bettas once in a while, since they thrive in almost identical environments, but due to their high activity level they aren't perfect. They additionally are a fish that loves groups that need friends of the same species to be happy.Rasboras are identical Neon Tetras in that they love the same water conditions but are a creature that needs more of their own species to be happy. Their extreme activity level means they are not ideal tank mates, but in a big enough tank the pairing may work.

Discussed below are fish that definitely should never share a tank with your betta fish, disregarding anything you may hear from anyone else:

Gouramis or Cichlids Gouramis and Cichlids share many identical characteristics as bettas, but are unfortunately also an extremely aggressive and territorial creature. For this reason it is best to keep them separate from your betta fish.

Chinese Algae Eaters This creature becomes too big and become territorial when fully grown, and should be separated from your betta.

Platys Platys will occassionally bite betta fish. They also enjoy a higher pH. Generally, they are a poor match for both their attitude and their water condition requirements.

Goldfish Goldfish are typically thought to be a good tank friend for bettas, but they definitely aren't. They enjoy lower water temperatures, which your betta fish will not appreciate, and even worse they generate too much waste and can really dirty your tank. These requirements will reduce the life span of your betta significantly.
