A Brief Summary Of Various Ways To Promote Horses For Sale

By Brent Freeman

It has become increasingly tough to sell horses. There are several factors, including the downshifting economies that are to blame. Whenever an owner places horses for sale they need to be prepared to work hard if they are seriously hoping to create a sale.

The internet is a powerful tool. There are several websites that deal exclusively with marketing all things equine. Although there is nothing wrong with advertising on the free sites, most horse owners find that they get the most interest when they have posted an add on a popular paid site that gets a lot of traffic.

There is an old adage that about how a single picture can be worth a thousand words. This is true of the sales photo. Sellers need to have one. Many prospective buyers will not even look at ads that do not have an attached photo. The picture should not be one of the horse covered in mud and hanging out in the barnyard. The horse should be clean, look happy, and be properly displayed to show their conformation.

In addition to photo the seller wants to include a description of the horse. The photo will catch the eyes of prospective buyers, but the description will be what they use to gage if the animal will be a good match for them. The seller needs to write about the animal's background, the type of training it has had, and what its personality is like.

Sellers need to know that not all the people they are going to come into contact with are going to be upstanding citizens. Once in a while the seller will come across a person who is not really interested in purchasing the animal, but would like to scam the seller. Most of the websites have a place where they provide the names of individuals who have been connected with scams.

Sellers should be prepared to be asked for a video of the animal. This always sounds like a simple enough idea, but it usually proves to be more complicated than anyone anticipates. If the seller does not experience technical flaws, it will be a day that the horse does not want to work to its full abilities. The seller and whoever is going to help them with the video needs to be prepared to devote lots of time to this project.

The person who is going to be working the animal in the video does not have to be dressed in show attire, but they should at least be in clean clothing that is appropriate for riding. They should also make sure they are using equipment that is safe and that also looks good on the animal. The horse should be groomed. When putting together a video the seller wants potential buyers to focus on the animal's gaits and training, not the ill-fitting bridle or chewed on mane.

In the past most people have mailed the horse for sale video that they shot. Now they do not have to. The simplest way to make sure the video is accessible to everyone who would like to see it is by posting it online.
