Building Houses For Your Poultry - Take Note Of The Basic Requirements

By Isaac Doran

Rearing chickens has become very popular amongst people who wish to earn extra money. An important aspect to be noted prior to starting business is the construction of units where your flock is to be kept. Here are some of the considerations to think about before building the said units:

Climate ready: Climate changes, regardless if its good or bad, is inevitable in all parts of the world. Thus, provision of safety is necessary, such as strong and firm chicken coops, is the only way to survive.

Protect from predators: Never underestimate the capabilities of predators that are lurking outside your flock's vicinity. Always keep an eye on your pets as well as for suspicious stray animals around. Provide further safety by fencing the whole yard, as well as placing electric nets. The bird units must have wire meshed doors and windows. Your birds' food and water container must be within reach. Never forget to keep the area clean at all times.

Adequate ventilation: Good natural air must be able to circulate in and out of the coops, as clean environmental air is also needed by your birds. If you are planning on a large number of chickens, coops must be large enough to accommodate all at the same time providing good ventilation. For fewer quantity, a can have a smaller sized coop, but make sure to make vents on one side. Two vents must be made on each unit if you are living on areas with warm environment.

Heat management: Too much of something is dangerous, that is why too much heat can be disturbing and damaging to your flock's health and behavior. But astonishingly, these birds can survive in rather cold environment; below freezing point is another disturbing issue. Suggestions and techniques are shared in books regarding on to construct coops to balance the temperature.

Sustaining humidity level: For birds, the body's cooling system lies on their beaks. With so little level of body function, it risks their body function to fail if humidity levels fall or rise off range. So owners must see to it that humidity levels must be maintained as much as possible.

Wide area for movement: Areas established for raising chickens must be spacious enough for active movements and exercises. But it usually determines the number of chickens you are to rear. The nest and roosts must be installed inside. See to it that your flock is not too jam-packed in each unit to avoid injury and unwanted damages.
