Cats : Preparing Your Home For A New Arrival

By Mark Walters

If you are wondering exactly what products and supplies you'll need for the arrival of a new cat or kitten, look no further than our guide. We've put together some of the key things you'll need to get. Food is probably the most important thing you'll need for your cat. Some of the cheaper cat food contains chemicals that are harmful to cats, so you should always try to buy the best quality cat food you possibly can to keep them healthy.

You also need to buy all of the relevant accessories to go with all the food your cat is likely to eat. Buying them separate dishes and bowls for their food and water will help to keep things hygienic, and it can often be a good idea to buy a few different bowls as that way you'll always have one handy. Separate forks or other cutlery to serve their food is also a good idea as this will eliminate the risk of their food contaminating yours.

Of course, your cat is also going to need somewhere to sleep. While some people are happy for their cat to sleep either on the sofa or on their bed with them, it can be a really good idea to get the cat its own bed. This will help it become more disciplined and will also give it a space that belongs just to him or her. You should try and find a soft basket so the cat will be comfortable. You could also personalize it by adding a blanket.

It's also really good idea to buy your new cat a litter tray and everything that goes with it. This is especially important for kittens as they should stay inside for the first few months. Even if you get an older cat and intend for it to go outside to use the bathroom, it's useful to have a litter tray available to them while they're getting to know the area as it will help them to associate your house with home.

Lastly, make your cat feel really at home by getting them some toys and accessories to play with. Not only will this be fun but it'll give them something to do when they get left home alone. One idea is to hide catnip toys around the house so they can hunt them out. You can also help stop your cat from scratching you and your furniture by getting it a scratching pole so it can scratch it to his or her heart's content.
