Color Evoke And Inspire Different Emotions

By Jacob Powell

With years of experience come several rules when it comes to hanging pictures. If a wall appears empty without a picture then this is when you should hang one up and never should you hang pictures on every wall you see unless you've always yearned to live in an art gallery. With regard to hanging pictures you can do so over a sofa, in groups, over a server, a small pier table, or a console.

Another rule follows this. Never make the groupings wider than the furniture underneath it. If your pictures vary in size then you should hang them close together in order to achieve a unified look. Maybe you have a prized collection of bird prints but the frames do not match and their sizes vary. Apply the concept of pleasing geometrics when you hang them and do not do so frame by frame.

Another rule follows. Regardless of how close pictures are hung the wall is also a frame that serves to set off a group of pictures on all four sides. When it comes to pleasing geometry, this means hanging the pictures so they form a square or a rectangular arrangement. Considering that you have four pictures all framed alike and of the same size a good choice would be to hang them in a straight line over a long table, geometrically in a square over the sofa, or vertically above a small step table. Hanging pictures in a step pattern should only be done when there is a staircase. Whenever you can go for straight lines that meet at right angles. There are times when a little regimentation is the better option to take.

Consider that you have a number of pictures you have been able to accumulate over a lifetime inclusive of old family portraits, originals, prints, and reproductions. When it comes to hanging these together framing and matting everything alike would make everything unified. For 16 prints, one friend used forest green matting and simple gold frames. Being set against a red wall the look was amazing. Adding color for one friend involved matting each picture over her sofa a different color. Aside from being of the same size there was only one subject for the pictures.

Did you ever experience staring inside a department store model room wondering to yourself what could be missing? What was missing was a sign that someone lived, ate, slept and took telephone calls in that picture perfect room. There is no individuality. This should be in your home.

Without the department store model furniture cannot be sold and it is important that a home give you comfort and pleasure. Never mind the trends and go for your favorite color. Should you pick colors remember that these can affect the mood of a room. With different colors come carrying emotions. Should you find it hard to choose a color then look at a few color charts until you see a color you like. There is no choice stronger than individual choice here.
