Different Cat Breeds

By Jessica Page

Way back thousands of years ago, there is already the existence of relationship between man and cats. In the modern generation, cats are known as the second most favorite pet of man. One perk that you can acquire when getting a cat as your pet is that you do not need to monitor the cat all time. As a matter of fact, you can just leave it in your house as you work. However, you have to ascertain that it does not get hungry and when you get home, you must have the time to bond with it. Unlike dogs, taking the cat for a walk is unnecessary.

Not Pedigreed Cats

Studies have shown that most pet cats are actually not purebred. Majority of them are mixed with various breeds wherein as little as three percent are those that are pedigreed. However, owning a non-purebred cat as a pet does not really make any difference when compared to the pedigreed pet cats.

When placing cat breeds on various genres, they are usually based according to their physical aspects. Such features that are considered are the shapes of their body, the size, the color of their eyes and the length of their coats. Some even categorize them according to their traits and personalities. But when it comes down to the most common categories, they are the long-haired breeds and the short-haired cats which is the most widespread.

The rationalization as to why cat owners prefer the short-haired cats more is because long-haired cats are more arduous to handle. To accentuate, long-haired breeds require more bathing and grooming sessions. Moreover, fleas are more likely to exist and that can be a huge problem most especially if the pets are kept inside the houses.

In any case, for thousands of years cats have bred themselves quite well and have evolved from being used for hunting as well as for eliminating rodents and now cat breeds are the product of human intervention and they are meant to suit mankind's own needs. Thus, it should not surprise you to learn that at present there are as many as seventy different cat breeds that are recognized through many different cat registries.

Different individuals may be cognizant to at least forty cat breeds among the numerous registries in the world. These breeds may have also acquired some modifications in their physical aspects. Lastly, about the rumored cat breeds that existed thousands of years ago, it was proven to be just a myth which started in Japan but has dispersed all around the world.
