Dog Training Techniques For Anyone

By Adriana Noton

How we do love our dogs! These beloved pets become members of the family very quickly, especially if they are obedient dogs that know a few tricks. There are many dog training techniques that can ensure your pet will be loved by everyone in the family.

The first thing you must establish with your dog is dominance. Owners should never let their pet think that he owns the house. If they train their dogs right away to be submissive, it will be a lot easier to get through the training procedures. A human owner is the leader of the pack and the dog must understand this right away. It is vital to their training in the future.

When the dog is submissive to the owner, they have the idea and training from that point on will become much easier. If you cannot get your dog to obey and become submissive, he will be much harder to train.

Be consistent with your rules. If the pets are allowed on the couch, allow them on the couch. Do not allow them on one day and then force them off the next. They do not understand this kind of flawed human logic. You may have a reason you want the pet off the couch just this once but he will not understand and should be given the benefit of the doubt, especially if he is a smart animal.

Remember the old rule to keep it simple. The smartest pet recorded knows over 200 human words. Chances are, your dog only knows a handful. Be simple with your rules and your words. One or two word phrases are good. Do not be aggressive when you are teaching good behavior. Just like a child, they will react out of instinct. If they learn aggressiveness from you, they will think it is the proper way to act. They have only their senses to rely on because human comprehension is outside their grasp.

Make sure you carry around your pets favorite treats while you are in the process of teaching. Dogs associate food with good things, so if you train him to like something he has always disliked by associating it with food, you should not have future trouble in that particular area. For instance, barking every time the doorbell rings. If a pet is given a treat whenever the doorbell rings, they will associate the doorbell with food, making it a good thing. The key, however, is to only give the food to the pet when he is quiet. Waiting for quiet, giving the treat and praising the pet for his obedience are all parts of good pet training.

If your pet has a problem with pooping in the house, you simply need to walk it more. It is good for the dog and good for you to get this kind of exercise anyway. Have a good, regular, consistent schedule and your dog will get on that schedule, relieving you of the clean up duties when you get home or get up in the morning.

Always treat your pet with the kind of love and respect you would like to get from him. They are instinctual creatures and will recognize your love for them. Using various Custom Dog Training Newmarket techniques will ensure a happy, healthy pet.
