Things To Remember Before You Travel With Your Pet

By Leo Stewart

It can be a fun experience to travel with your pet. What better way for you and your loyal companion to explore new surroundings and adventures? Now before anyone takes a trip they should be well prepared. Your pets can't do the preparations for themselves so it's up to you to do it for them. Here is some general advice and tips you should know before you take your pet along on a trip.

Checking Your Pet's Condition.

You should be aware of your pet's physical condition before traveling. Go to the veterinarian in order to check on your pet. Your pet should have all the necessary vaccinations and health certificates. Leave your pet with a sitter if its too old or young, pregnant, or sick.

Driving in a Car

If your pet is in your car, you should put him in a pet seatbelt or carrier. Your pet shouldn't stick his head out of the window. It's possible for your pet to get hit by something or become carsick. If the weather is hot, you should have the air conditioning on.

Take several breaks when you drive so your pet can relieve himself. If the area is shaded, you shouldn't leave your pet unattended for long periods of time. The car may dehydrate your pet when it over-heats.

Don't loose your pet loose when you travel. The pet might run into traffic, get lost, etc.

Things to Bring for Your Pet:

Bring pet food - Avoid changing your pet's diet and feed him with the brand you usually feed him with. So if you are unsure where you are going will have the brand, bring some food.

Bring Water. You should bring 2-3 gallons of water.

An extra collar and two leashes.

You should also bring a picture of your pet. Pets can become lost when traveling with their owners and this has happened many times. You should also bring a description of your pet. If your pet becomes lost, this would be of great help.

Don't forget your pet's toys.

First aid kits.

Don't forget your pet's brush or comb.
