Three Types of the Von Willebrand Disease

By Sheila Mansion

Your not so typical genetic disorder that came out of nowhere can be seen on the Von Willebrand Disease. This disease has three basic types that every individual should learn about and not just for the sake of their dogs but for the sake of the owners as well as this can affect humans as well.

This disease is commonly called for and has been in existence due to the lack of the factor, the Von Willebrand Factor in the blood. With the absence of the Von Willebrand Factor, one would say that the best way to prevent such a disease from taking over would be to prevent any kind of physical injury or physical trauma that can be experience by the individual dog or the individual person. Hence, there are three types of the Von Willebrand disease that you should know.

The first type is the most common type where there is a lack in the amount of the Von Willebrand Factor in the blood so there is just a mild bleeding tendency or it may take more time in order for one individual to actually get his or her blood clotting, much as the case in dogs.

The second type is where the von Willebrand factor has the abnormality of the cells present in it. There are two types here, the first type is where the von Willebrand factor is just decreased so like the first factor, the dog will still be able to have mild bleeding tendencies while the second type is where the von Willebrand factor is totally defective in terms of the cells.

The final and last type to remember would be the type where the Von Willebrand Factor is completely at a loss and there is no definite way to stop the bleeding. Hence, you should also know that the Von Willebrand Factor can be inherited from both parents or even from just one parent.

One important thing that you should remember is to make sure that even if the dog that you have may have the lack on the Von Willebrand Factor, you can still prevent it by making sure that you dog does not experience any trauma or injury.
