Tips On How To Groom Your Puppies On Your Own

By Moses Havlichek

Dog grooming is an expensive task, especially when owners take their dogs to professional groomers. However, this is necessary expenditure. Dog owners cannot ignore a dog's grooming needs because it will compromise not only the dog's hygiene, but also its psychological and physiological health. But do not worry. Owners do not need to spend money on a professional groomer. There are numerous ways to take care of a dog at home. All that is required are some grooming supplies.

The primary thing any dog owner needs to think about is the dog's coat. It needs to be maintained so the dog does not have to worry about pests, including fleas. Get a soft-bristled brush and brush the coat every day. This will prevent tangles and make the coat shiny and prevents shedding.

Have the coat trimmed or do it at home. To give a dog a trim, individuals need a blow dryer, clippers, scissors, and a comb. A majority of dogs only need to be trimmed once in a two month period, however some dogs need a monthly trimming. A trimmed coat is not appealing to fleas.

It is often a difficult task but dogs do need to have a bath. It is important to purchase shampoo designed for dogs, as their coat is different than human hair. Also required are soap, brush, comb, and towels. Always brush the coat before the bath to prevent tangles. Long haired dogs need to be bathed once a month, while dogs with short hair can go every two months. However, if the dog rolled around in mud, give it a bath. A regular bathing schedule prevents skin diseases and fleas. Plus, the dog smells really good after a bath.

Clip the nails of any dog once a month. Ill-taken care of nails will not only cause scratches to furniture, but individuals can get scratched, not to mention it is not good for the dog. Buy specialized clippers, read up on how to do it, and have blood-clotting powder readily handy if there is a need.

Yes, dogs need to have their teeth brushed twice a week. They are prone to gum disease, cavities, and other oral conditions affecting the mouth, teeth, and gums. Any pet store will have the necessary oral hygiene equipment.

Lastly, do not ignore the ears. Their auditory organs are prone to bacteria and yeast build-up and can cause chronic ear conditions. A dog's ears need to be cleaned on a standard basis.

All owners want to keep their dogs healthy and happy. Remember that a dog is a man's best friend. Guarantee their health by using proper grooming techniques.
