Art As An Expression Of Oneself

By Anthony Lee

For this artist believe that art and music go hand in hand. It was normal for him to be in a house that was all singing and art. Drawing or singing was not everyone's talent and he discovered this in school. Now he is a musician having given art a rest during his teen years to concentrate on music. Instead of washing cars for money, he would play with local bands which earned him more.

Music had been his life for over 30 years. !2 years ago he wanted to give painting another shot. He hasn't stopped painting since then. Today, he still does singings and of course painting as well. The subjects of his paintings are deeper now compared to when he was younger.

He enlisted the help of his friend, who was also a musician and a painter, for some oil painting lessons. Trying to learn the realistic style his mentor helped him a lot. Among the things he made during his classes were a painting that was chosen as a promotional print the year it was painted, and a portrait of a long haired, white cat.

The message that you want to send out is the end results. What he does it to find where the emotional impact lies in a scene. He always targets a flattering image when doing a portrait of a person. With flattery comes the right kind of lighting for the portrait.

More images will be able to come to life if you have the appropriate lighting and shadow depth. A lot of times his watercolors are seen as oils. Watercolor is easy and simple to use in paintings he says.

Painting a mural for a couple who live in the Clover Hill section of Frederick was one the biggest things he had to make. In their home, the scene occupied one whole wall which was of colonial Williamsburg. It is due to their interest for the early American village that they asked for a whole wall worth of art. The mural is of a fictional street and it is about 10 feet wide by 4 feet tall.

It was important that he put in some images of wagons and people dressed in colonial garb and hollyhocks to give it a more realistic feeling. Carrying on with the project he was working around six to 12 hours a day four days a week. In the other three days he allotted it for his musical rehearsals. For him painting will strip one physically and mentally. One will need to muster a lot of concentration for this.
