Paintings From A New York Artist

By Emma Bell

Is it graffiti? Ruffiti! There is an artist who loves to paint his dogs on uncontested spaces all over Manhattan from construction site fences to buildings. May you be a dog lover or not, surely you will react when you see the portraits that he does of his beloved four legged pals.

A lot smile and laugh, a few complain and some try to take the art with them. His portraits have been included in fashion magazines and the like. There was even a seven city tour one summer on Route 66 because of how successful everything went.

In a move to avoid art dealers, he decided to use these spaces as his canvasses. He said that if it is alright with you to have to follow the orders of art dealers when it comes to what should be painted, it is up to you. Even if they have to follow orders, some artists are willing to be told what to do to succeed in this particular field.

He just wanted a new challenge and this is why he created these. If you get the chance to glance at this works, you will be amazed. Such paintings have variety. According to him, this is art at its finest.

What he resorts to are seven swift strokes whenever he is painting dogs. You can thank the formless paintings that hung in galleries because they led him to start this kind of art form. A visit from a woman staying down the street from the gallery only happened when it was time for his dog show. She left the show with a $1,500 dog painting in her hands.

Even without money, some people went anyway. Other than sales, the artist signed a couple of autographs. The dogs were believed to be sacrificed for Satan by the artist. What another person said was that New York had no place for these.

There will always be detractors the artist said. The antique trade was his sole source of income in the past.

He works by utilizing the things he sees in the city. In this case, his nighttime walks take him to the Wall Street area. When summer is about to arrive, he will plan a trip to the country. What they call this is the Dogs across America tour.
