German Shepard Puppy

By Winfred Caddle

A puppy is like a cute bundle of joy roaming around your home, but have you considered what kind of a puppy you want? With the exponential increase in the number of dog breeds you need to find out which of them are faithful to you. Well the answer to this question is very simple. The German Shepherd is one dog breed that is not just a good companion but can also be trained to perform a lot of activities.

Choosing a German Shepherd can be a tricky task because you need to look at the puppies carefully so as to ensure that there are no health problems as hereditary breeding is known to cause health issues in German Shepherds. Some health issues that affect these puppies are hip and elbow dysplasia, digestive problems, epilepsy, chronic eczema, dwarfism, flea allergies and keratitis. The best way to ensure that you are buying a puppy that is free from any kind of medical problems is by choosing to buy from a breeder who would be able to provide you with a certificate that assures you of your puppy's health.

Since these puppies are very friendly and eager to learn you should take care to train them so that you have a German Shepard puppy who is obedient as well as capable of learning new things. One of the best ways to make sure that your new puppy learns what you want is to train the puppy outside. This way you can take the time to see that your puppy's health is kept well.

While it is a fact that puppies enjoy going out for walks and playing outside, this is especially true in case of German Shepherd puppies. The walks can be used as a method to train your puppy to have good social behavior in the company of strangers. There is one other important thing that needs to be taken into consideration while training your puppy.

This thing is that a German Shepherd is a very intelligent dog. But if there is no activity that is currently occupying the puppy, then it can turn into a destructive puppy. Correct training and proper handling are the only methods to reduce this destructive nature. It should be ensured that your puppy is being trained with a lot of patience, firm but gentle handling and lots of affection.

Another thing that needs to be addressed is the grooming part, which in case of German Shepherds is very easy to perform. You only need to brush your German Shepherd's coat on a daily basis. Apart from this your puppy would require a bath only twice a year. Bathing your puppy more than this amount may lead to loss of your puppy's protective skin oil.

Even though you have a wide range of options while getting a pet dog, the German Shepherd is one dog that will be your companion and mate throughout your life.
