Understanding The Charateristics Of German Shepherds

By Tony Wallace

German shepherd puppies can be really naughty and have a mind of their own. Unless you plan to start training them as early as three months, it becomes difficult to do so later and they will not like to obey as they grow older. It is quite simple to train them which you can do it at home by yourself.

German shepherds are very sensitive animals. It is better to understand their temperament and deal with them accordingly. As the owner it is your job to be assertive and stern but never on the aggressive side. It helps to be sweet to him and show him that you love him with a reward every time he does something right.

When your German shepherd is a small baby itself you will need to start toilet training for him. The best method would be to get him used to a small crate for him to use and take him out repeatedly so that over a period he understands to finish his jobs outside the home.

With all the puppies it is a habit to chew and bite things. You can expect to find socks and hankies to go missing. They are likely to bite anything and everything while they are growing their teeth. To stop this habit it is better to get them a soft bone or a ball which is meant for chewing.

You can teach your puppy to understand your emotions and talk to you for they are highly sensitive animals. Therefore they can tune in to your emotional state of mind. When you are happy they are also happy and wag their tail. When you are sad, they try to make you comfortable by snuggling against you.

If you train your puppy well and teach him manners he will be the best behaved puppy in public. He will love accompanying you on your shopping trips as well as outings for doggies love riding in the car wit their nose to the wind. They will know who your friends and are how to treat the guest when they visit your home.

German shepherds are home bodies who love their home and their family. They always like to be happy and loving. Being highly sensitive they need to be loved and made to feel secure all the time failing which they will get sad and depressed.

They love quiet and being out in the open sun. So it is always nice to let him rest in the patio during day time and bath in the baby pool during summers.
