Learn About Puppy Separation Anxiety...

Puppy separation anxiety is the distress of fear that a puppy feels when it is left alone. It is also common for puppies that gave just been brought to its new home to feel puppy separation anxiety. Puppies that have been taken too early from their mothers also develop puppy separation anxiety. This condition is also common among puppies that were adopted from shelters.

The symptoms of puppy separation anxiety can range from mild to severe. Some of the mild symptoms include nervousness, anxiousness, and whining while moderate symptoms include constant barking, scratching and digging at doors, and chewing on anything that has your scent like beddings. Meanwhile, a dog with severe puppy separation anxiety loses control of their bowels, chews compulsively, and destroys furniture. Among dogs with puppy separation anxiety, some of them even panic and hurt themselves in the process.

When dealing with puppy separation anxiety, remember that you should deal with it because the problem will not just go away. Aside from the behavior modification training approach, there are also a number of natural remedies and ways to deal with puppy separation anxiety. There may also be times when you would need to seek help from a veterinarian for really bad cases of puppy separation anxiety. You veterinarian may need to prescribe some medicines that will help your pet to calm down.

To prevent the occurrence of puppy separation anxiety, you need to train your dog. First, do not make so much fuss over your dog is you are about to leave to go somewhere or to run some errands. Leave your puppy alone at home for short periods only at first. When you arrive at home, just carry on with your normal movement and tasks and it would be good if you can avoid making any fuss. Avoid making a big deal out of your arriving and leaving.

This way, your pet will learn that it is perfectly normal that you come and go and that it is not something that it should get nervous about. You need to have your pet accustomed to having you leave house every now and then. You need to work hard and be very patient when training your pet. You also need to promote your pet's independence so that it will not be too affected whenever it is left alone.
