After measurements are made, a plan should be drawn out to reflect the specific numbers and other details. This is to ensure no mistakes are made when building the cat condo.

An important factor to contemplate before beginning to build a cat condo is the number of cats that will be using the unit. Another factor that should be considered is the size of the cats involved. Younger and smaller cats have more energy, and will likely enjoy multi-level units. Larger cats will appreciate more space, but not as many levels. Smaller cats also prefer softer scratching fabrics, which larger cats prefer rougher textiles to rub against their denser claws.

To locate the different materials needed to build a cat condo, several stores may be visited. For different fabrics and textures, going to arts and crafts stores is suggested. Pet stores sell textiles and building materials made specifically for pet related climbing units. Carpeting stores provide a cheap source of carpet samples and cardboard tubing.

Cardboard is a useful product, but if a stronger building material is needed, plywood or particleboard may be considered. They are more durable and capable of withstanding more damage than cardboard. These objects can be found at local hardware stores.

Although learning how to build a cat condo may be a challenge, but it is also an interesting project to take on. Predesigned plans and templates can be purchased at pet stores or online. Ready-made units may also be purchased at these locations.
