Do Your Homework On St Bernard Breeders

By Casandra Newton

St Bernard breeders offer one size puppy, extra large. This breed will grow to be a very large dog, some just shy of 260 pounds while others will be closer to the 160 mark. They are part of the Mastiff and Newfoundland type dogs which are also very large. They have many good qualities and make great family pets.

This particular dog seems to have originated in the Western Alps between Italy and Switzerland. It is a descendant of the Newfoundland and English Mastiff. They are also considered part of the Molossoid breeds which is always associated with a solidly built dog. They may have been brought to the Western Alps by the ancient Romans.

This breed of dog is recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC). Most puppies will already have an AKC registration number when you adopt them, however some may not. This number is only important if you are going to show your new dog in a competition such as confirmation or rally.

The drooling is something a family would need to get used to. This dog will not stop slobbering and drooling simply because you want it too. It is a form of cooling for this breed and can be wiped away but never stopped. In fact, many times in the hot weather, you will need to carry a squirt bottle filled with water in order to keep squirting water into the dog's mouth so he can slobber and cool himself off.

This large breed puppy will need lots of exercise in the form of daily walking. This is not a dog for running or jogging but he will enjoy a brisk walk every day. Although he is large, he is still a high-energy type of dog and that energy needs to be burned off as much as possible so he does not use it on destroying your house. He will also love the time he spends with you on your daily walks.

This type of dog will require a lot of attention when they are around. They will be able to entertain themselves for short periods of time, but prefer the company of humans. This breed of puppy tries to be gentle but their size dictates otherwise.

Because this breed was originally a working dog, and all dogs, no matter what the breed is, can become bored if they do not have something to do, they should be enrolled in school or given a task, a job of sorts. They could become good tracking dogs, show dogs or therapy dogs. Dogs who are bored and do not have something to occupy their time will entertain themselves by eating your things or destroying the house.

St Bernard breeders offer you a small puppy, but in a few months, you may have a very large dog. These dogs are known to grow very large, very quickly. Before adopting one of these extra large dogs into your family, make sure you are ready for extra large messes, extra large amounts of slobber as well as extra love.
