Dog Training With Some Sound Easy Tips

By David Hamilton

As a new dog owner, you may be overwhelmed with the amount of work it takes to make sure your dog is both healthy and well behaved. This article will give you tips regarding as a new dog owner, and ways that you can successfully train your dog.

The dog, man's best friend. We've all probably found ourselves owning a dog at some point, but perhaps weren't the one responsible for training it. One of the keys to training a dog is consistency. You have to reward it all the time for good behavior, and punish it all the time for bad behavior. For example if you are potty training and your dog uses the pad, reward her with a treat each and every time to reinforce that behavior.

It is important to make your dog training sessions fun and positive. Dogs love to play, so if you mix up the training with toys and fun chases they will be much more enthusiastic about your training efforts. A fun training session will be remembered much more quickly by your pet.

Have a treat ready to reward your dog after it completes a task you ask it to properly. You want your dog to recognize that when you give it a command and it does the task that it is doing what you want it to do. This is the best way to ensure that the dog understands the difference between right and wrong.

Throughout your dog's training program, continue to play with them as much as possible. Interacting through games and activities is one way to bond with your pet and relieve stress. Dogs respond much better to people they trust, so go out and throw a ball, play tug of war or just rub their belly.

Start out using a clicker for dog training rather than voice commands. Dogs do not understand human language easily. Using a clicker at the beginning of training allows the dog to easily associate simple clicks with positive behavior. Once your dog understands simple clicking actions, you can replace the clicks with very simple voice commands.

Dog owners should learn to listen to their pets. When a dog indicates that he is uncomfortable in a situation, such as with another dog, it's never good to push him further than he wants to go. Take a step back and re-evaluate the situation, or come back to it at a later time.

As a new dog owner, you are faced with many challenges. Hopefully if you follow the steps presented in this article, you will be much closer to being able to successfully train your new dog and have a better understanding of what goes into dog ownership and training.
