Having A Dog Do What Is Right Is Essential

By David Hamilton

At some point in most of our lives we have owned a dog, and boy is it a rewarding experience. This is especially true when you have a well-trained obedient dog. Nothing says love like getting pounced on the second you walk into the door. Hopefully this article can help you to have a loving and obedient dog.

Never try to train your dog when you are mad, do not take your frustrations out on the animal. Just wait until another day to do your dog training, where you can work with the dog in a more positive manner. It is never good to act out your emotions on the dog, just put the training off for another time.

Gradually allow your dog more freedom. A new dog has to earn his freedom around the house. Otherwise, expect housetraining problems and chewing that causes damage, especially with puppies. Close off doors, or use gates to section off rooms or parts of the house. Over time, as they are house broken and learn to listen to commands, allow them more freedom.

In order to train your dog to stop barking, it is crucial that you find out what the cause of the barking is. For example, if the reason that your dog is barking is because he is hungry, make sure that you are feeding him often enough. If he is barking because he has to use the bathroom, let him out.

If you are aiming to train your dog in the best manner, you should always make sure your dog gets enough exercise. Dogs are very hyper creatures who need constant exercise in order to release energy. If they do not get enough exercise, they will likely use all of that stored energy to do something bad.

Stay calm. Your dog gets his cues from you, and when you start acting agitated and upset, his actions will be sure to follow. Dogs can sense when you are uncomfortable. If you act calm and in control, you convey a disposition to your dog that allows him to relax as well.

Just because your dog is obeying you, do not assume that they are done learning. Your dog is always learning. Never stop reinforcing good behavior. This is especially important if you move. A new surrounding can be very distracting for a dog. You might have to reteach them a great deal.

When your dog is trained properly, your experience of dog ownership is so much more enjoyable. This article hopefully took you from dog novice, to dog expert. Consistently apply these hints, and you will see a difference in your dog's behavior.
