By Jerry Welsh

Dog enthusiasts are inclined to extol on the admirable qualities of human's best friends. The dog will be a dependable helper and protector as well as a friend that will provide not only happy moments but also immeasurable affection and loyalty. Caring for a dog though would be a big responsibility. Caring for a puppy is just like caring for a baby. Remember, a dog will entirely depend on its owner for their dietary, health and social needs. A dog would mean a significant addition to the family's expenditures too. Moreover, caring for a pet would also take a big chunk of your time. A person that have decided to get a dog is presumed ready to provide the dog's needs.

A dog would need nutritious foods to be healthy. Poor quality dog food would not be too expensive but it will not deliver optimum health for the dog. To ensure proper growth, the pet has to be provided with premium quality food. Dogs are voracious eaters and one serving would not be enough. However, over feeding would result to obesity that can be the cause of some health concerns.

Dogs are noted for their high energies. As such, the pet would have high exercise requirements. This means that you have to provide the dog with opportunities to exercise. Walking the dog around the block would be okay but a pet that is taken to a dog park once in a while would give the dog a chance to socialize with other dogs.

Another dog care essential is grooming. Good hygiene of the dog must be maintained because these affectionate animals are hugged and even allowed to share the family's beds. Grooming that includes bathing, teeth and ear cleaning and coat brushing will not only enhance the appearance of the pet. Grooming the dog allows the owner to see any parasite infestation. Veterinary care is as important as any other element of pet care. Vet consultations will be additional expenses but they are necessary to ensure the health of the pet.

Socialization and obedience training is as well necessary to mold the dog into an ideal pet. Dogs that have undergone obedience training will be well mannered, an indication of the kind of care given by the owner.
