Why Cat Trees Are Fantastic For Your Cat's Sanity

By Robert Baker

The most functional items that every cat owner should have are cat trees. These are a combination of fabric or carpet covered surfaces joined with scratching posts. Sometimes there will be toys attached to the underside of surfaces or the tops of poles.

The rope covered posts are made for cats to scratch. This is how cats keep their claws healthy and filed. They are a great way to stop cats destroying your furniture.

Taller cat poles usually have many posts connected with hard, fabric covered surfaces. These allow easy access for the cat to get up and down the tree. Some models may have soft pet beds attached to make them more appealing.

Highly strung cats often become bored and trees for cats can be a great way for them to burn off energy. Most cats will enjoy running up and down the tree. Putting them near windows is a good option so that cats can sunbathe across the surfaces.

Cleaning the post is often simple and best carried with a hoover upholstery device. Trees are made to last through scratching and climbing but damage can still happen. It is usually easy to fix minor damage on a post.

Usually the posts themselves are the first part to break and the rope becomes frayed. The tree can be disassembled and the old rope removed. It is usually attached with staples or glue. This can then be replaced with new rope.

Cat trees are a fantastic option for most cats and they can usually be found in a size to suit any owner. It can sometimes be difficult to fit large trees into small spaces. In this case, mounting the platforms on the wall is a viable option. The scratching posts may also be mounted or can be placed on the floor separately with a base.
