Tips On How You Can Show Steers

By Agnes Franco

It can be stressful to groom, train and care for Texas show steers. However, it only involves simple steps when showing the animal. No matter how easy it is, you still have to practice in doing the act before the actual performance.

When you attend the performance, make sure you appear presentable. Ensure that you have the appropriate clothes on and that you must also appear like a professional. You are also recommended to wear leather boots which will protect your feet. Be polite and kind to the people in the ring. When they are giving you instructions, you should listen carefully.

Guide your animal towards the ring. Hold the stick straight-up with your left hand. The halter lead should be on your right hand. Give the animal some slacks so that he will not feel too crowded and he may not also lose control.

Lead the creature around the ring in a clockwise manner. Although you have to wait if the director already instructs you to do the act. Be sure to keep distance with your animal and the one in front of you for about three feet.

When you are directed to pause, let your pet set up. This is the act of positioning his feet appropriately. Get your stick with your right hand from your left and utilize it by directing its feet justly under the critter.

You may now tap his hind leg gently. The left leg should be next and it is important to follow this in order. Before proceeding with his front left leg, tap his front right first. Make sure that the back legs are set up wider than the hooves in front. This will give him advantage from the stewards.

To give the judge a better view, he should be in the middle of both you and the judge. To make sure that he does not get pissed off during the examination, rub his belly. During the examination of the head, stay on the west side and transfer your stick to the left as well. This always gives the steward a good view at the texas show steers.
