What You Should Know About Gourmet Dog Cookies

By Shari Swanson

Making your own gourmet dog cookies will save you money. It will also enable you to control what goes into them and make your pet happy. Once you see how easy these are to make you will wonder why you ever bothered to buy them from the store.

Gather your ingredients. You will need two cups of flour. Use 1 cup of wheat and one of white. It is fine to use two of the same type but this allows your pet to have some wheat which is more nutritious. You will also need one cup of oats, 1/4 cup of peanut butter, 1/4 of applesauce and one egg.

Mix all of the ingredients. Make sure everything is incorporated, however, do not overwork the dough. Once everything is combined gather the dough together and wrap it in plastic wrap. Place it into the refrigerator to cool. This makes rolling easier.

Mix together ingredients of your choice. Flour, oats, peanut butter, honey and some apple sauce, an egg or water is a good mixture. You may also want to use minced carrots with applesauce and flour for a different taste. Mix together the ingredients of your choice until it is the consistency of cookie dough

Roll out the dough. Use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes. A bone shaped cutter is cute for this. Place treats on a cookie tray. Bake in a 350 degree oven until set. Remove and allow the treats to cool.

Store your gourmet dog cookies in an airtight container. Your pet will love these and you can feel good knowing that you have not added any fillers or ingredients that are not nutritious. These treats are great for training aids. Your pet will find them so delicious that he or she will be willing to do any tricks if it means getting one.
