By Florence Jefferson

During cold seasons, there are people who find it a challenge to do the things they always do. This is because their bodies react to the chilly conditions that are brought about by winter. Thus we say that they are allergic to cold.

Thus, cold urticaria is described as the state where one develops rashes and pimples, due do exposure to extreme cold conditions. These hives may be brought about by exposure to winter weather, drinking cold liquids in cold seasons or taking ice-creams.

This condition is known to affects body parts that are left uncovered during the cold seasons. They are widely found around the feet areas, the hands and on ones face. This means that you need to ensure that you have covered every part of your body during the chilly days and nights if you want to avoid being infested by the cold urticaria.

The good news is that you can easily get rid of cold urticaria. This is because all you are required to do is to stay warm during the cold seasons and you will not be infested by the hives that come up because of this condition. You can also prevent this condition by keeping indoors in the cold and chilly days thus not exposing you body to the circumstances that favor the formation of these painful rashes on your skin.

Avoiding swimming pools in cold seasons prevents one from experiencing cold urticaria. When you decide to have a little swim when the weather is not favorable, not only do you risk getting cold urticaria, but you are putting yourself at risk of getting serious chest problems. At times, the hives are not visible by the naked eye. This requires a test to ensure that the hives are really present.

The surest way of spotting the cold hives is by applying ice cubes on the skin. This will be quite painful but it enables the medical personnel to spot the pimples, thus they will know where to apply treatment. Unlike other cases of urticaria, cold urticarias have a cure. If they are spotted early enough, they can be treated and in no time, your skin will be back to normal.

The easiest way of treating cold urticaria is by compressing them with a cloth wrung out of warm water. This is because the warm water will cause a rise in the body temperature around the area infected by the cold urticaria. Knowing that these hives thrive in cold conditions, they will ultimately disappear as the warm temperatures do not favor them. Taking a warm bath is also a good idea to suppress the cold urticaria condition.

Ensuring that the temperatures in your home do not fall below the normal body temperature is also a way of curbing cold urticaria. This can be done by lighting the fireplace so that it can provide enough warmth especially during winter of having a room heater appliance which generates warm currents, thus maintaining warm temperatures in an area. One should also ensure that they wear warm protective clothing such as the cardigan, woolen scuffs, woolen hand gloves and leg warmers to protect the whole body from cold urticaria.
