Natural Dog Foods: The New Trend in Dog Feeding

By Jamie Lansley

It has been recently since people started patronizing "natural". Alternative medicines, home remedies, and organic substances - these are all revolutionary products and methods that are becoming more popular nowadays. But humans aren't the only ones going natural. Even dogs have their own share of these, as can be seen in natural dog foods that are taking the dog food industry to a different level. Many dog owners are now switching to these products.

Processed dog foods have been long used and they have invaded the dog food industry for many decades. However, as science improves and the knowledge of man widens, it is impossible not to learn of the disadvantages of processed foods to the natural development of dogs. Synthetic food products for canines have been found unsuitable for their nutritional needs.

To support the previous statement is the fact that dogs are omnivores - a mixture of carnivores and herbivores. Their bodies need sufficient amounts of both meat and vegetables because this is how they get the adequate nutrients they need for proper development. This is what was missing in processed foods because they are mostly made of wheat and corn which are used as fillers for products like kibble and canned pet foods.

Why are there fillers in processed dog foods? To put it simply, manufacturers use grains like corn and wheat as fillers in their processed dog foods in order to add volume to their products. Kibble is fairly inexpensive because it has a lot of fillers in it, decreasing its meat and protein content. Canned pet foods have the same modus, where the products use chunks of gluten to look like chunks of meat.

That is the reason why processed dog foods are a lot less expensive than natural foods. They contain so much less proteins, which means they do not meet the standard nutritional requirement for dogs. If you compare processed foods with natural ones, you will see the big difference both between their prices and their nutritional content.

To understand more about natural dog foods, let's use Darwin's Natural Pet Foods as an example. If you look at the content of Darwin's food products, you will observe that they contain nothing more than pure human-quality meat and vegetables. Their meats may vary from duck, chicken, beef, or turkey and may also contain ground bones, hearts, and livers. Meanwhile, their vegetables are made of mashed carrots, squash, yams, zucchini, celery, romaine, and apple cider vinegar.

Darwin's food products are created to mimic the real diet of dogs if they lived in the wild like their cousins the jackals, coyotes, and wolves. Combining raw meat and fresh vegetables is what Darwin's does to provide the best nutrition for canines. As compared to processed foods, natural pet foods like Darwin's contain no fillers, that is why they are guaranteed 100% pure proteins and vitamins.

Many dog owners are now realizing the benefits that natural food products bring to their pets. Not only do dogs get to eat the natural foods that are made for canine bodies, their owners also save more because dogs eat less but get more nutritional value. There must be no better deal that what natural dog foods offer.
